4/10 Ember and Josh reconnect on the day Ember finds out her dad passed away while serving in the Army.

I didn’t love this one. Didn’t invoke any particular feeling, the third act breakup was unnecessary and frustrating.

Military relationships are hard and I think this book captures those details well.

Did I go into this Rebecca Yarros book expecting to cry? Yes. Basically all of her books make me cry.
Did I expect to be crying in the first chapter? No! She really knows how to break my heart but she’s also the best at putting it back together. This is a beautiful love story that you can’t help but root for.

I adore Ember and Josh. While they are young and they still have a lot of growing up to do, you could feel their love for each and that they are perfect together. I love a good insta love/old high school crush and knowing that they both were crushing on each other in hs was fun to read.

Ember goes through so much in this book and there is no one perfect to help her through it than Josh. He was supportive, caring, loving, and did anything he could to be there for her. Ember is so strong having to deal with what she did and I admire her for it. I did not see the twist coming (as I never see anything coming!) and while it broke my heart for Ember, it makes it better knowing everything works out for the best ♥️
