This one I may have even liked more than Nemesis!

Wow. So.

Pretty good, actually. The book built on twists I thought were dead, and introduced some I hadn’t necessarily seen coming. The action was pretty good. My grievances are pretty minor, and I didn’t even really like the first book.

Bbbuuutttt, I’m not exactly a fan of Min and Noah together. And the fact that The Guardian turned out to be Min’s dad was something I didn’t really like either.

But Sarah and Alice? Wow. Did not see that coming.

Actual (4.5 out of 5 stars)
This book continues the storyline of the first book in this series Nemesis. It follows two characters Noah and Min who are both betas in the program called Nemesis.

This book is action packed! I think I said it before in my Nemesis review that it would make an awesome TV show or movie and after reading this second installment, I still stand by that! There is so much packed into this book.

There are friendships that are formed and torn apart. There is some romance. And tons and tons of killing and death!

This book is slightly reminscent of the Hunger Games because of the survival of the fittest aspect, where you have to kill your peers to stay alive.

I really enjoyed the dual perspectives in this book. I actually enjoyed it more in this book than in the first book.

The writing in this book is absolutely incredible. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I kept wishing that I could read faster just so I could get to the end and figure out what happens, but alas, another clif-hangar.

There will be a third book coming out in 2019, and I can't wait to read it! The third and final book in the trilogy is called Chrysalis and it's expected publication is March 5, 2019.
If you are looking for a book series full of action, twists and turns, love and betrayal, than this book is for you! In my opinion this book series is a yong adult dystopian/sci-fi.

Thanks so much for stopping by and reading!

I received this book from the publishers via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Holy. Moly. Did I just read that? What a thrill ride if a book. And a blood bath! I am not even slightly joking on that one, my gosh, it’s vicious. I am sat here a little bereft it’s over and slightly shocked by it all. Also before you read on there are mild spoilers for the first book included, so beware!

Anyway, onto the main review! As you may remember I loved the first instalment of this series, and I was annoyed I hadn’t guessed a bit more of what was going on. Well that’s because of the whole Nemesis thing, I’ve come across that before and I am still annoyed I didn’t put it together! I guessed about the computer program to a degree, though not completely how it played out, but not Nemesis. Haha. So the sequel is a tiny bit more predictable I guess, but only because the set up is already done. I definitely didn’t foresee the level of blood bath it would become! And Tack and Noah are still a little problematic. More Noah this time for me, he was all over the shop. But it was less frustrating than in the first book - possibly because they both spend less time with Min, and possibly because there’s just so much else going on to concentrate on.

But I loved Min. And Sarah, to a degree! Possibly evil, but focussed and driven, which I respect in this context. Wouldn’t want to know her though 😉. And Ethan and friends are proper psychos but in way that really works for the story. I also really like the way the groups are put together and change through time, the dynamics of their crazy little society.

I do want more at the end - with everything they go through there would be serious consequences in the future, as well as there being a real implication of what happens next in their world. I get why we don’t have that, but I could happily read a short story about the fallout and the events of the next 10-20 years! 😂

Overall I think the absolute edge-of-your-seat style writing is just something that really works for me and that’s why I love this so much. It’s hi-octane and slightly crazy, and a thoroughly enjoyable read. A great finale to the duology.

So. Much. Death.

I love it.

I loved being able to meet some of the other characters in this group of teens. Even learning a whole lot more about Sarah and Ethan. In Nemesis, I just brushed off all of these side characters, not really thinking that they were very important. In here though? I actually started to grow to understand them, see what made them tick, their strengths and weakness. I just started to really enjoy them, no matter how morally grey they may be. Noah was one I grew to love even more as well. He was my favorite in the first book, but this one just certified my feelings. He is hands-down my fave. <3 Min and Tack were characters that I still feel a bit iffy about. Tack i actually enjoy for his quirkiness and sass. I mean, who doesn't love that? Min is too much of a mixed bag for me still. Sometimes I love her, other times she just outright annoys me.

The plot was so good! Phase 2 really brought out sides of characters we didn't even know they were capable of. Sides were being chosen, lines were drawn, and morals went out the window in order to ensure your revival. It was fantastic. I loved the different strategies everyone took in order to best the others. Even seeing the backlash that was to happen because of said strategies was great to read. Everyone was doing their own thing to save themselves, but they still understood that what they had to do seemed wrong. Morally grey at its finest.

Definitely recommend checking this one out if the ending to Nemesis was making you itch.

All in all I loved this book. It was very well written, and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
The only downside I had was that it did swear... a lot.
Other than that, it was a fantastic read, and very enjoyable.
