"'Do you like girls? Is that a thing you do?'" is one of the worst lines I read in 2023. Shout to the audiobook narrators who were really just doing something. This book was addictively bad.

super sweet and fun and an easy read (: honestly it went so quickly i thought i had missed a section of the book but it really just moved quite fast, but it didn’t really feel rushed until the end. because katie is reeling from being cheated on by her (ex) fiance and coming to terms with her sexuality it had me reflecting on my own experience in those first months of recognizing my own sexuality. i would say the feelings and fears katie was having were relatable, and im honestly glad the author didn’t include a meeting with her family after her and cassidy made it official because i think it was nice to focus on them and not the external aspects. in queer romance i feel like there is almost always tension with some characters family and while that is definitely realistic in coming out, it was nice to just keep things lighter (:

also i thought the side characters were super fun and a good addition to the story. HEA queer fun!

This was disappointing. I've decided to DNF because I just can't fathom reading another 100 pages of raging stereotypes and insufferable characters.

Any stereotype you've ever heard about the Lesbian community this book has them all, from trying to turn straight girls to as the main character puts it "looking like boys" she even goes on to say that they look like Justin Bieber before he got muscles whyyyyyy.

Katie is from a conservative family yet somehow when she begins this thing with Cassidy that doesn't seem to be a source of worry for her???? I am grateful enough to have an accepting family, but even I worried and wondered about how they would view me and how it would effect those relationships.

Not to mention her complete lack of an identity crisis - she never once questioned her sexuality before this yet somehow she doesn't have a complete mental breakdown and question everything.

This was just not an authentic story at all (i'm aware that not everyone has a sexuality crisis when they discover who they are but still)

It irks me beyond belief because all Katie does is be pretty homophobic and prejudice and has some very mysogninistic views that I cannot get past.

Cassidy the love interest is riddled with stereotypes also, she falls in love with her best friend in high school and then when she goes to college chops all her hair off and starts dressing like a "man".

Overall, this was just an insufferable read, I tried to give it a chance and read on hoping for some character development or just something to keep me going, but no. The characters are so unlikeable.

I'm grateful that a Sapphic rom com made it mainstream (I mean I literally bought the book at Target) but this is not an accurate portrayal of a queer identity, self discovery or community.

Came for a cheesy romance and got more of it than I expected? Just like a Hallmark movie through and through. There were a lot of moments that were set up just to be cut out. If even a fraction of those moments were fleshed out then it would've been more palpable.

i recognise and acknowledge that with romance novels, you seem to have to lose some of reality’s nuance and character and politics for the fantasy and tropes to reach full force, but honestly, this also didn’t even have the things you sacrifice realism for. zero chemistry, zero conviction, zero wit, totally unclear where this romance comes from except we’re told they’re both attractive, which makes it hard to care. boring
