I really loved the first book in the series and rushed to get to the next one as soon as I finished but unfortunately this book fell incredibly flat for me. It moved incredibly slowly with only small bursts of action, and then we had to replay each event from everyone else’s perspectives.
I also found the writing to be much worst than the first. The random pop culture references became obnoxious at a certain point, and while I love the diverse case of sexuality and gender identities, there was far too much rambling that just felt like it was trying to shove stuff in for the sake of it. Why are we getting an explanation of pansexuality in the middle of a love confession instead of just trusting the reader to know one of the most well known sexualities?
Unfortunately these things kept breaking my immersion and I really struggled to enjoy this book which is a let down after how much I enjoyed the first and was excited for a more modern take on the fae.
I will probably still attempt the next book but it’ll be much more susceptible to being DNFed if it’s not a smoother read.

A Dark And Hollow Star is one of my all-time favourite books, so going into the sequel, I was as excited as I was nervous that I wouldn't love it as much as the first. Yet, somehow, if it's even possible, I think I may love A Cruel And Fated Light just a little bit more....
The characters are all as phenomenal and lovable as last time. I'm genuinely in love with them all, I would quite literally die for Nausicaä, really of them, but Nausicaä is just the love of my life. And it's not just our main four, but all of the characters that I'm obsessed with. Even the villains are written amazingly, they're not just the bad guy who we all hate, they are people too with different relationships with the different characters and reasons for their actions. We got so so so much more Riadne in this book and I'm not sorry about it at all! I really didn't expect to be so attached to the backstory chapters of her and Azurean but when I tell you I was losing my mind!! Reading their scenes, witnessing their amazing chemistry, and falling in love with their longing and needing them to be together all whilst knowing exactly where they ended up was a different kind of torture!!!! We also got a lot more Celadon this book, which again, I'm so so so so happy about! I want to say he's my favourite but they're all my favourite

Für alle die das Buch genauso langatmig finden wie ich: Durchhalten, das Ende ist wirklich spannend und ich brauche dringend Band 3. Vor allem wegen des riesigen Cliffhangers

I have heard of filler chapters before, but never before have I heard about a filler BOOK.
I cannot comprehend the need for an entire filler book. 600+ pages of mostly no developments! Close to zero character development as well, if anything we've got the opposite. And if we take out the countless unecessary descriptions of every. single. thing. we might be left with a few pages of actual interesting plot.
What happened in the last five chapter was what I was hoping to get in the middle of the book, because how else could the plot develop?? Well, I guess we'll never know.
