I thought this was a pretty decent book but I enjoyed it mostly because I was reading it with my friend Margaret. It is a classic romance and gives Bridgerton vibes in a high society way.

Emma and I’s first read together! I loved being able to process what I had read with her especially since the language was more complex, and at times required more unfurling. That being said, I did love Jane Austin’s prose because her sentence structure, the many names of the characters, and the older English words, required my full attention, which drew me into to story and the period. I was quite pleased with the ending, once the action got going it wrapped up all rather quickly. Anne and Captain Wentworth’s love story is a true slow burn which makes the ending all the more sweeter. One of my goals for this year was to read more classics and I believe this selection was the perfect place to start.

The romance and yearning was more mature, passionate than Austen’s other novels. However, it felt as if Anne was a background character in her own story; her love story doesn’t fully kick off until the final 15 pages. It is good nonetheless
