This was a strange one for me, and kind of hard to follow. There are many stories within the story. Too many characters to keep up with, and called by different names throughout... And yet, I was drawn in and eager to find out more... But I think I would have been satisfied with just maybe three of the stories instead being overwhelmed by more than a dozen.

eh this book wasn’t that good. There some exciting fast paced parts and good story telling at the beginning but the majority was meh. Also too many characters for my baby brain to keep up with so I got confused. Also it just seemed that everywhere the 60 year old male main character went, 20 year old girls were just begging him to have sex with them. And also he spends a page describing the growth of his 16 year old daughters breasts and how she’ll need to start wearing a bra

I love Easy Rawlins'. How can you not love a character with a name like that? Easy (Ezekiel)is a hard-nosed African American detective, set in 1967 post-Watts Riot L.A. You can easily imagine some of the problems he encounters. Easy can be likened to Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe, only with an inner city edge to him. Little Green is great entertainment. Mosley weaves a good story and your favorite characters reappear (my fav is voodoo healer Mama Jo). The best Easy line? (upon inspection of the file the LAPD has on him), "There were all kinds of crimes I had been a suspect in - some of them I actually committed." Prose. If you're like me and thought "ewww", when you saw the cover of the book, don't let that dissuade you, it's a good read.

I will suggest that the books be read in order. There's a lot of building on previous stories and you don't want any spoilers when you surely decide to go back and read them all.

Is there anything quite as satisfying as an Easy Rawlins story? This one especially, classic Mosley. I love Easy's LA. I'd forgotten how much.

I love that Easy is still alive and kicking. His foray into the hippie culture and Acid tripping world of LA is fun and deadly. I love a regular gumshoe who is hardboiled. They don't come any more hardboiled and tasty than Easy and Mouse.

I've been reading Easy Rawlins for some 20 years now. I read the first book in one sitting staying up all night in bed with the light down low. This one took me a couple of days but it was just as good as ever.
