You really need to get this book! I can't say enough good things about it! .... Jennifer shares from the heart with wit, wisdom, and winsomness. Like eating food for the soul and a long drink of water you didn't realize you needed at the same time. Challenging and comforting both. Jenifer reminds of who's really in control and that we can rest in Him no matter what is going on in or around us.

It is uninspiring - pretty dry and boring.
challenging emotional hopeful inspiring

Since I've started reading this book, I've had to come to terms with the fact that I am very much not in control. My kid turned another year older and is starting high school, no control over that. The lawn mower decided to stop working, we fixed it but still, can't control when that will happen. My computer stopped working and had to get a new one, can't control that. One of our cats has been sick for the past week and it's not looking so good for her, can't control that. All sorts of small things busting, breaking, ripping, just not doing what I expect of them.

But this book, it's about more than just those things that are out of your control. It's also about empowering you to really grasp and take charge of the things you are in control of. The overarching message that I got while reading this book is "There are some things that only I can do. I can't pawn them off on others and I can't ignore them to take on work that isn't mine in the first place." I have to be me and do what I was created to do.

There are several quizzes, flowcharts, etc in the book and available as a free resource on the book's website that are meant to help you figure out where you're needed and where you need to let go.

This book is a great tool for not just those that pride themselves on being busy but all of us who are connected with the world. There are things that we are in control of, things that we are the only ones that can make the decisions about for our life. And we need to make sure that we aren't wasting time taking care of so many other things that we aren't responsible for because we feel like no one else will do them, or do them as well as us, or even because we've always done it and don't know how to quit.

I could tell you about all the chapters and ideas discussed but the truth is, I have a feeling that this is one of those books that everyone who reads it will discover something different inside. Some will hear one thing, the next something completely different. For me, the book ultimately brings to mind one of my favorite quotes from the movie The Holiday "You're supposed to be the leading lady of your own life." And if you're too busy playing bit and side roles then when are you ever going to take on the things that are meant to make you shine?

A free copy of this book was given to me by Tyndale Publishing House for the purpose of review. I'm never required to share a positive review but I'm always thankful when I can.

My rating of 3 seems a bit harsh so I’d say honestly more like 3.5. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t life changing either. I appreciated the truth bombs included and I took several important things to know and live out, but it felt like all of the important stuff was surrounded by fluff. Likely a better read for mothers rather than college students but there’s good truth in it.

This book was interesting but I had a problem with how much they mentioned Jesus and God. I was hoping that it would be more about trusting in yourself and understanding that life is out of your hands. I am glad to have won this book in a giveaway. And I am not sorry to have read it. It just was not what I expected from the title.

Perfect timing for me to read this. Loved it and related to it so much. She offers just enough examples in her own life to keep it real, but unlike other authors in this genre, she didn’t have the “whoa is me” attitude. She was real and relatable. Give it a chance if you are struggling w control! It is so good.

Just what I needed

This book came along through Bible Study mid-pandemic (2020). Ironically, my word of the year is surrender, which this book reminds you to do constantly.

I have filled half a notebook with quotes, verses and reminders from this book. I enjoy Jennifer’s easy style-she will both challenge you and make you laugh. I look forward to reading her other books.

Who needs a book on control? Not me! Well, then I started to drink in the words shared by author, Jennifer Dukes Lee and my shoulders started to peel away from their perennial position by my ears. In gentle, conversational tone, Jennifer shares just how pervasive our need to control every detail of our lives has become, not from a place of mastery, but from an "I'm down in the trenches along side you" point of view. Sometimes we press forward when we ought to pause. Sometimes we try to fill a silences that isn't ours to fill. Sometimes we simply need to stop and surrender. Do you find yourself there? Well, through the pages of this book, Jennifer offers practical suggestions, thought provoking ideas to put in place and most importantly, the girlfriend-y encouragement we ALL need.

This book by Jennifer Dukes Lee has been one I’ve been savoring and key in a few decisions I’m making about my time and how it’s spent. Quite honestly it’s as though the book plopped into my lap at just the right time.

Things I’ve been wrestling with - well, each time I sit down and have a chance to read, the chapter on hand has been specifically tied into an issue I’ve been mulling over. I love that.

Fabulous read - no matter the pace you are able to get through it! #itsallundercontrolbook #itsallundercontrol
