This was one of very few books I rated 5 stars this year! I did not really know much about it going in which made it all the better to be honest! I was ✨️influenced✨️ on TikTok. I think it might be the best recommendation I have ever received from Booktok. If you like dark fantasy with spice and love Halloween...do NOT read anything about this book. Just start it. You will have 0 regrets. Since finishing it last night I have messaged every single book lover I know to read this book. I am already salivating for our Dragon boys book. Talk about a book hangover.

I picked this up as the author is attending RTD this year, and I wanted to know if I should preorder for it. Unfortunately, it's not a love connection here.

I expected something different from this, and I should have read the synopsis specifically rather than the brief description on facebook. That part is on me, though!

Onto the story itself. I loved that this was set during Halloween and that there was a festival of sorts every night during the month. I wanted more of those nights and much more descriptions when it came to it. It focused highly on Blythe and her feelings of being watched and her wanting to explore that.

It's all fine and dandy, but she was introduced as such a weak and scared woman that it felt like a switch was flipped. It could be that she stopped caring about being alive and just wanted to live?

Anyways, this is a very non reverse harem, reverse harem. You have these 3 men interested in her, and even 2 of those have had relations before. Yet, Ames, the main man in this book, acted like it was the worst thing to share Blythe. I'm not expecting them all to want to share at the same time or anything but all the RH's I have read didn't have any of the men be so hostile at the thought of mere flirting.

It started off so strong and it's a slow burn (100% fine with) but I was losing interest at 50% and it just dwindled. The main focus was Blythe being followed and the men getting excited at a hunt for said man but it kind of shifted in tone once all of them declared they were interested in Blythe. What really lost me was "dicked down" and "demon daddy".

I wanted so much more from this.

I’m a goth girl at heart and this book made me so happy. The FMC is perfection, mysterious and I had absolutely no idea what her plot twist would be.

The men. Oh my gosh. Each one of them is pure gold. The wait Ghost is so protective then man shares a little? Scene of my dreams.

The fantasy in this is also super fun. Some things I hadn’t seen yet and explained well. The spice? Bit of a slow burn but it’s worth it. It’s so worth it.

I loved the ending and can’t wait to see what happens next. It’s a fun book, some mystery, dark romance, fantasy and a bit of thriller action. It’s all I can ask for. Oh did I mention it’s monster smut? There it is. That’s all you need to know.

3.5 stars. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the first half of this book. I wasn't expecting such a fleshed- out world and such charming, 3-dimensional characters. The smutty bits are also very hot! That said, the second half dragged a bit, and then the ending felt rushed and messy. There's no explanation for a lot of things, and other things are just way too convenient. Additionally, this book contains a fair number of typos. They're mostly homonym mixups (queue for cue, for instance, or quenched for clenched) or misspellings that still result in a real word (sniffled instead of sniffed), the sort that require a human editor. I hope that Blackthorne's future works will have the benefit of a human editor, or at least some smart beta readers, to catch those errors. Unfortunately, they do pull a reader out of the story in a pretty jarring way. Overall, this is a decent book, but I doubt I'll read book 2 after that ending. We'll see, though. Maybe the concept is strong and sexy enough to bring me back.

It's a spicy, paranormal, Halloween romance. What more to like!? Some typos aside, I really enjoyed reading this story. I thought the plot was very original and enjoyed how the story came together. I loved Blythe (we love a plus size mc!) and the mystery surrounding her and why she's on the run. I felt like the guys calling themselves "The Halloween Boys" seemed a bit cheesy, especially given the back story. I also came in anticipating more spice than what was included, but I didn't mind that. It's a very story/plot driven book. Overall, I'm very excited to read the next book in the series!

I thought it had an issue with pacing. It was very slow to begin with and very fast at the end. But I love the characters! I will definitely read the next book

Twisty

When I first started this book, I thought it was going to go one way and I was actually kind of sad. But then the first little twist came….and then they just kept coming!

I love that the FMC is a plus size woman who actually loves her body and doesn’t try to hide herself away. And I really want to live in Ash Grove
