A fantastic must read in a genre that is overwhelmed with WWII books. I know there are so many and I myself roll my eyes when another is before me, but just do it. If you are sensitive, you will be able to see the handful of "hard" scenes coming and you can skip a few pages. Such a spectacular story about normal people that did extraordinary things. I only mean normal in that she was a woman in a time where they were not expected to do much but get married and have children. The multi timelines seem unnecessary at times, but it all becomes clear at the end of the book. Hang in there and notice the name of each chapter, that will help.

I truly loved this book and that is honestly rare for me. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genes and there are a lot of books at WWII, but this one was unique. It brought a us back ad forth between during the war and Nancy’s life before the war and I liked that. It made it interesting to see how the book would end and the timelines would finally meet. I love seeing the evolution of Nancy and the four points of her life come together. When you find it is based on a true war hero, it makes it even better.

The interesting real story of Nancy Wake, a WW2 Resistance fighter and spy. Told in 2 interwoven timelines (although I think I would have got more of it if it was told in a linear way given all the code names), it is a good read.
I think basing this off of a real person was a risky decision but I was fascinated by the story and if anything I want to know more of Nancy's story and check out her auto biography
