I guess I can see why people like this book but I just really did not like Holden (and his stupid catchphrases) and the plot was boring to me sorry I’m a phony I guess

I wouldn't say I enjoyed this book necessarily - I liked some passages and I was kind of charmed by the contrast between Holden's very edgy inner monologue and his outward politeness. I definitely understand people's dislike, but what makes me kind of fond of this book is what I think Salinger must have been trying to accomplish with it - creating the kind of story that Mr Antoloni talks about, a story which shows that you are not the only one who has felt aimless in life disillusioned with the world. I think it's quite a wonderful portrayal of a teenage mind.
However, I did find a lot of the conversations a bit boring, and I'm obviously not crazy about the portrayal of women, but then again this is from the 1940s. I would have liked a little more of a resolution. I think the message, as I interpreted it, is pretty subtle and maybe won't be noticed by younger readers, which kind of defeats the point.
Overall, though, I got through this very quickly and I'm glad, because I think this is one of those books that are nicer to reflect on than to be reading.

I love this in a 'grieving boy finding his place in the world' way instead of a 'narcissist who hates everyone' way and I think that is a very important distinction!
I really think that a lot of people missed the point of this book
