I stumbled upon Loathing You through a TikTok comment under a video about Tryst Six Venom, where it was described as a 'way better version.' Intrigued, I checked out this book, only to see some of the top reviews call it a 'straight-up copycat' of Tryst Six Venom and give it a one-star rating. So, needless to say, this book has a bit of a controversial reputation due to its similarities with Penelope Douglas's work. Despite that, I dove right in.
I won’t deny that the characters and setting bear striking, almost suspicious, resemblances to Tryst Six Venom. However, the way the story unfolds and the distinct writing style made any accusations of plagiarism irrelevant in my opinion.
Loathing You is beautifully written, with well-developed characters that are so endearing, you can’t help but love them all—no matter their actions. The enemies-to-lovers trope is handled perfectly, showing just how intense an 'enemies' dynamic can be without pushing things to the extremes that Tryst Six Venom did. The pacing was spot on, and the displays of jealousy were incredibly well done, leaving me pleasantly surprised. I also appreciated that every scene had a purpose, furthering the romance or character development—unlike many other books that often have filler content.
My only critiques are that the resolution at the end felt a bit rushed and unearned. I would’ve loved to see the central conflict explored more deeply, but perhaps that’s just because I didn’t want the book to end! Also, I wasn’t a fan of the steamy scenes involving male characters, which felt out of place for me personally.
Overall, this book has become a new favorite of mine, and I can’t wait to see what Amina Khan writes next!

Around halfway through I realized that this book felt very Wattpad-esque because it was originally published to Wattpad in the first place. Which, yeah, that makes sense.
This book is very much a guilty pleasure to me... The writing is pretty mediocre in a lot of parts, but there were moments that definitely ended up sticking with me too. I especially liked the exchange between Adaline and Juliette on page 156, "I'm sorry if I ever made you feel like you weren't [beautiful]."
I acknowledge this book is self published, but it also definitely would've benefited from more proofing and edits. You'll come across a couple glaring typos every now and then, and there's a lot of moments where you'll see stray periods or uncapitalized words.
There are other gripes I have (Kai's explanation for staying Juliette's friend throughout the years is pretty Bad in my opinion), but ultimately I picked up this book because I was interested in the dynamic between Adaline and Juliette, and though it wasn't everything I hoped for, I still found myself enjoying it.
