This was a very good but heartbreaking read! It caused so many emotions. It is a story about "The House of Horrors" and how Lex and her siblings were neglected and abused by their parents and the aftermath and trauma following their escape. The book reminded me of the real case of the Turpin family.

I liked that there was a chapter dedicated to each sibling, allowing their individual stories of survival to be told. It was fascinating to see how differently each sibling's life turned out and to explore the relationships between them.

At first it was hard to follow the changing timelines between flashbacks and the present day as they happen quite often between parragraphs. However, after a few pages, it becomes easier to get into the flow of the writing style.

This book is well written and largely a great story. But raising an 11 year old it’s hitting too close to home
