My goodness that was depressing. It read like a memoir. Why would anyone write this as fiction. Yicky

Wow I have surprised myself with this one. I contemplated stopping many many times. Just couldn't get on with it. The past and present setting usually works for me, but it felt so confusing with this one? The past stories of them/her as children was fascinating to read, but as soon as we got into the present I was bored, nothing ever happened really. Maybe I'll re-read it again in the future to proof myself wrong.

Heart-wrenchingly difficult read. That doesn't mean you shouldn't read it, absolutely you should, just be prepared for some difficult imagery that is almost impossible to get out of your head.
I had to keep reminding myself that it wasn't a true story.

There is a pressure to the book that keeps on building. You know what is going to happen, so it's not a shock, just a feeling of immense sadness

The premise is a good one, the book did not live up to it for me. The story of the horror house is the only story that is complete. All others kind of hang in ambiguity, like the writer either didn't know what to do with them or wanted to leave it to the reader. Something i dislike in books. I want to know what the writer had intended. It's not a bad book, just not great either.
