Well written and so much care is taken in the writing about this kind of abuse. Intrigued throughout the book though some parts did bore (I actually fell asleep while listening). Throughout the book we jump timelines with no warning or indication (at least in the audiobook). I also do not feel like this is supposed to be about the Turpin Family AKA House of Horrors, many differences. Solid 3

DNF around page 100... the writing style left me too confused (different timelines in seemingly every paragraph! Whyyyyy?) and the story wasn’t gripping enough for me to keep going. Sorry.

I finished Girl A last night, and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since then.
Told in flashes between the past and the present, Girl A is the story of Lex, a New York attorney who grew up in a horribly abusive household with her six siblings. The bulk of this book takes place in the present, when Lex and her siblings are adults and their parents have died; but there are flashes to their childhood, told sometimes from Lex’s perspective and sometimes from that of her siblings.
Every page of this book was heartbreaking and dark and, despite knowing that the bad guys have been gone since page 1, I couldn’t help feeling a creeping sense of dread throughout the entire book.

A dark and fast paced fiction novel that definitely has a thriller - true crime vibe; this is not my normal content but the author has a remarkable voice and writing style that really carried the novel effortlessly. Despite being a fiction novel I think the author did a good job of narrating the nuances of trauma, forgiveness, and healing. The character exploration of the surviving siblings wove an intricate web of different paths of healing and varying embodiments of the trauma they endured together. The book also did a realistic job of highlighting the exception of how they all had very different relationships with the same shared experience. I think I appreciated that the ending had a hopeful tone without having a “fairy tale ending” and that it felt realistic in its character conclusions. I would probably reread this and I would recommend it for someone looking for a captivating and engrossing read.

DNF I really tried but this book is all over the place I can’t keep up. Not my cup of tea ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
