Copied from my GR review:

DNF at 65% (page 189/283, Kindle edition)

This book really didn’t age well and is full of the most cringe dialogue. The FMC is so irritating that it’s almost funny and I wanted to hate read the rest of it, but I can’t. It’s not worth it. She’s chock full of internalized misogyny and slut shaming, and she’s slapped the MMC not once, not twice, but THREE times so far. Once at his workplace when she decided that was the best place to confront him about something. Like WHAT???????

I only picked this up thinking that, because I loved The Tragedy of Felix and Jake, that J. Daniels could do no wrong. Apparently, early 2010s J. Daniels did a lot of wrong. Plus, she’s apparently from the US but was going through her cringe UK obsession phase when writing this. The random British English phrasing (rightly fucked, mental, etc.) when the story takes place in Chicago, Illinois kept pulling me out of the book.

J. Daniels is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Every book she writes sucks you in and has you falling in love with all the characters. I loved the friendship between Dylan, Juls, and Joey. I loved Dylan’s feistiness and I loved LOVED Reese! On to book 2!

So I’ve got this thing for cake batter. I know it has no nutritional value whatsoever. Whenever I’m baking a cake, I tell myself I’m going to leave just a little batter on the spoon to lick after I put the cake in the oven. Next thing I know I’m scraping the beaters and licking the bowl, my entire face covered with batter. Am I proud of this? No. What was my point? Oh yes. This isn’t an enlightening work of fiction. This isn’t an innocent little love story. This is no Pride and Prejudice. This is a graphically sexy, foul-mouthed, laugh-out-loud novel and I loved it.

I decided I’d just read the Kindle sample since I hadn’t previously read any erotica. After reading the sample, I told myself I may as well buy the book since the Kindle version was only $.99. Before I knew it, Dylan, Joey & Juls had me pulled into their crazy little world, wishing I had friends like them. Too much lack of communication turned my cake batter bittersweet but this surprise treat was otherwise delicious. Am I proud of the fact that I devoured this book in one day? No. Has reading the scorching sex scenes raised my IQ? No. Will I read book two? Abso-freaking-lutely. For would-be readers, I offer this one piece of advice: If you can’t handle a little heat, don’t even open the book.

Nice and cheesy and predictable, but overall good
