okay this is going to be a long one. i HATED this book. i read it because it was a way of getting my tbr down (i literally have more than 2000 books on it currently), and i just thought it would be fun and entertaining but nothing special. boy was i wrong. the first half was nice and what i expected it to be but the second half ??? it all went downhill.
the romance had literally no development, all of a sudden they were together, they were having sex, talking about loving each other. the fmc felt really immature for her age, but okay i guess. and the mmc ? he was just a plain asshole. he was super possessive and jealous for literally no reason towards her HALF-BROTHER, EVEN AFTER HE KNEW THEY WERE RELATED. like wtf ? he had literally no personality except for the fact that he was an asshole. he literally never talked to her, never opened up to her. he went around demanding things from her when he wouldn’t even answer when she asked him questions, very simple ones at that. the third act breakup was hands down the worst one i have ever read about, if he had just talked for a change, it could have very easily been avoided, but no. he prefers to play the role of the mysterious, broody asshole. i also hated the way he pushed the fmc to have sex. he said how he was a man who had needs and whatever ? like okay cavemen, go hunt then. i hated every second of the second half and i don’t even know how it got so bad so quickly.
the only reason it’s getting one star is because of the deceased grandmother, she sounded so sweet and nice and kind. i love the little hunt she set up for her daughter. i loved the whole family aspect, her finding out who her father is, finding out she has a half-brother and that she stills has another grand-mother. i loved the whole ‘i’m lost but will find myself again kind of vibe’.

tbh the romance was the most useless thing ever. i would have liked it so much more had it not been there.

A grandmother with a plan after her death to help her granddaughter move on and find answers to questions that have been left unanswered. Henley seems to be smart but plays a little dumb but I guess she just really likes to have it told to her for confirmation. I was pleasantly surprised by the level of insight she has into life and how she is willing to put aside her concerns to wait and see if things will improve. It’s unfortunate that Saul did not tell her what was going on, would have saved a lot of heart ache. Great idea and it might be great to read another book by this author.

Gave me some Rosemary Beach type vibes.

A new favorite!

I have loved everything this author has put out, but this one is by far my favorite! It's different, delicate, and heartwarming. Simply put, some of her best work. A must-read for sure. It's one of my top reads so far this year!

"Life doesn't prepare you for what is to come. It just happens and we are stuck with finding a way to live through it or giving in and letting it take us down."

This book was an emotional rollercoaster for me and I couldn't put it down. I read it in less than a day and when I put it down, I found I was anxious to pick it back up again. The characters in this story were so beautiful and flushed out and I adored the way the romance grew. I laughed, I cried, I smiled. This book was heart wrenching and real and I couldn't recommend this book enough.

The character development is non existent and there are so many unanswered questions that you won’t even care went unanswered because that’s how invested you will be in this book. I used to love reading Abbi Glines books but in the past few years everything she has put out has fallen flat.

Thoroughly enjoyed.

DNF’d at page 190-something.

I’m sorry, but he wanted her to have no men over at her place, including her brother. Massive red flag and the fact she just went along with it.

Abbi loves writing weak women. It’s tedious and done in every NA book she has written.
