Very sobering account of a prisoner on death row, and the women in his life. I especially liked her reflections at the end, about how obsessed our culture is with true crime and serial killers, how quick we are to immortalize them in documentaries and press releases, and even quicker to forget the victims.

This book did not disappoint. Kukafka was able to capture so many different aspects of humanity in such a short number of pages. I'm still thinking about this book, and I finished it two weeks ago.
I loved the use of "you" with Ansel's POV. It gave me full psychopath creep vibes.
I did listen to about 25% of it on audiobook and if I do a re-read, I'll probably listen to Ansel's chapters on audio. The audiobook voice actor was on point. He gave me chills.

Though this story had challenging topics, it was a great read. I normally do not read this genre of stories so it was a nice change to what I typically read ; it was a fresh and necessary perspective that I enjoyed.

I appreciated that this book wanted to focus on a serial killer from the perspective of the women who survived and at the end, the victims and what their lives could’ve looked like. I liked the use of flashbacks to focus on both the survivors, victims, and the perpetrator. Overall I felt like it was well written.
