while it was enjoyable enough for me to finish the book, the world building and plot was very underdeveloped and i found myself confused throughout it often. i primarily read fantasy and struggled to understand what was ever happening in this book. the plot twist did not feel climactic and the romance and love interests felt one dimensional

this book ruined me. i fucking loved it
I really enjoyed this!! I thought the plot was fun & seemed like something new kept coming up every few chapters which made me want to keep picking the book up!
Isla was a great fmc! Although im really not sure what team I’m on 😂 I equally like them both & it’s very conflicting! I enjoyed the story throughout, but it really picked up towards the end! I didn’t see the twist coming at first so it really threw me off 😭
I loved her descriptions, she made every scene feel very atmospheric so it made the reading experience better in my opinion! Can’t wait to read the next one!

I don't know why there are so many negative reviews for this book? I loved it. It's being compared to acotar but imo it's kind of giving cruel prince vibes? Very YA, and definitely a conflicted love triangle but I'm here for it, I'll read the whole series.

Overall this book felt incredibly flat. For a book that has so much tell rather than show, I had no idea what was going on most of the time. The world building was vague so I could not conceptualise what this world was supposed to look like how it operated, how all the various islands and castles and bridges came together. Sometimes there would be a change of scene that just popped out of nowhere and it was entirely unclear how it related to the previous scene or how the characters had ended up in a situation. My most damning criticism however comes to the romance, indeed what romance. There was no heat, no sizzle, no chemistry, and absolutely no reason why TWO leading men could possibly fall for our bland, personality’less main character.
