A more anti-capitalist, horror-like approach than the movies. Enjoyable and a must read for fans of the franchise.

As a fan of the movie series, I was automatically drawn to this book. Unfortunately, it was a bit underwhelming. The pacing is quite slow, so that is one major benefit of watching the movie vs. reading the book.

I definitely prefer the science in the book, but I will always love the movies for having actually developed these characters. they are so flat here, especially the women.

One of the few books where I’d actually say the movie is better. While I really enjoyed reading this, it was a bit slow and meandering for me. But other than that it was great! The characters are realistic, the plot is engaging and fun, and the message is loud and clear.

Re reading this for a book club was interesting as I’d forgotten a lot of plot points. It’s a fun airport thriller although there are some long sections of pseudoscience on dinosaur DNA, chaos theory (Ian Malcom is much more charming as Jeff Goldblum and his pontifications only grow in length as the book goes on and ultimately
his monologues literally kill him
), and computer code.

That being said, when the action gets going, it just doesn’t stop. It strains credulity quite frequently (and for a book about a dinosaur park that’s saying something), but if you can just let it be what it is, it’s an enjoyable ride.
