Poor writing. "I haven’t thought his name in twenty-seven days. How I know that? There is a thin groove in the brick stone beneath the window of my cell for each day I manage to keep the pain of thinking his name at bay." First, there's a word missing. Second, this makes absolutely zero sense. I doubt it will get any better than this, since I struggled to even get this far.
Basically a DNF for me. There is a fine line between an introduction fantasy novel frontloading and explaining the world too much and not enough. This book was the latter, I spent the bulk of this book so confused, I stayed for the barest of intrigue I felt for the crow human hybrids. I literally had basically no idea what was going on, what the world looked like, and nothing about the back stories of the main characters. Alina was a pirate sure but why? What did her crew do to get caught? Why was she kept alive? And Myron? Why is he cursed or his people, what is the connection between Myron and Alina? Honestly it was too much, it was hard to follow, and I didn’t believe the love connection. Maybe I’ll return it to the series, maybe not but I’m not a big fan so far

This book series is FANTASTIC! I will and would recommend it to anyone and everyone who loves fantasy and romance, exciting action and a great plot! Couldn’t put it down.
