I definitely preferred this book in comparison to the first book. Some of the twists were guessable
like Celaena being Fae and that the King has some ultimate world-shattering power stone
but some of them did catch me off guard
like Archer actually being responsible for Nehemia’s death, and that ultimately Nehemia likely had a way to possess Archer to kill her

The angst between the characters was, at times, eye-roll worthy (looking at you specifically, Dorian); but I did find the scene where
Celaena gave Chaol a birthday surprise dinner on the rooftop,
to be very sweet and romantic.

I probably wouldn’t read this book specifically again, but I am still intrigued by the series, so I will keep reading along.

Biggest beef is the common thread that Celaena can't/doesn't tell Chaol that if she steps out of line or does not return the king will kill him. Especially
at the end when she 'doesn't have time' to tell him, but has time to tell Chaol about all of the word keys and words of power?

I thought it was good! The plot was cool how it morphed into speculation of internal issues. Not sure how I feel though about the relationships between characters, it's just kind of lacking. I like the series enough to listen to audiobooks but maybe not to keep buying physical copies.

I thought, nearing the end, 'Chill, the worst has passed.' Definitely NOT. She did it again—and after seven Maas books, I really should’ve known xD
The beginning felt a bit slow for me until a certain point, and then it suddenly felt like the story really began. I flew through the ending, it was so tense and gripping (and exciting!).
Maas is clearly setting things up for something bigger in the next books, I can feel it! I’m so excited… but first, I need to go back in time and read Assassin’s Blade (and probably cry) :)

This is a pretty fun fantasy and a good follow-up to the first book. It is definitely cheesy but engaging and the protagonist is compelling. It is a fun, easy read without a ton of depth and l’d recommend it to people who enjoy cheesy fantasy from time to time.

My rating for this was going to be a solid 4 stars ... until the last 16% of the book. That's when shit really hit the fan and got WILD
