90% of the book: People talking about how the h/h are sleeping together, even though nothing's going on.
10% of the book: The h/h alone in a room together, mostly talking.

I enjoyed [book:Act Like It|25750546] (even more so the second time I read it) so I was looking forward to this. I wasn't quite expecting to go tumbling head over heels in love with it but that's what happened. THE CHARACTERS. I read for character and Lily and Luc worked for me on every level possible. I loved how they both had issues, and the realistic working through of those issues. The communication in this was excellent, and I'm always excited when characters actually TALK. And one backs off and gives the other the space they say they need. And the slow burn plus the top-notch banter meant I could not put this down. This is going to be one I go back to again again.

Book 2 done for July 2019 24in48 readathon!

I really loved this second book in the London Celebrities series. Lucy Parker really takes aim at the shit actresses have to deal in the acting profession. Luc and Lily are great characters. I’ll admit to being a bit nervous about the age difference but it is handled so well. Also nice to see Lainie and Richard in a short scene (Richard gives great advice when he remembers to not be an actual git.)

yet another re-read <3

JFC Luke may be my favorite fucking grumpy hero ever. This read was of the audiobook version and the narrator is excellent.

Another charming modern romance set in the London stage world. Lucy Parker has a knack for writing abrasive and abrupt men as genuinely complex, rather than as a dickhead, alpha male stereotype. Her female characters are also treated with sensitivity and nuance.

Here our lovebirds are sexy bombshell Lily Lamprey and renowned director Luc Savage. Luc hires Lily as one of the costars in a historical play that will launch his new theater. But Lily is not an obvious fit for the role: she's a TV star, has never done theater, and her TV role gives her virtually no time to show her range as an actress in between vamping and bed hopping. The result is that everyone assumes Lily is dumb and incompetent and only got the role by sleeping with Luc (or any number of other people).

This was as well written and compelling as Parker's first book. But, for me personally, I had a major issue with the central conflict. Lily is a 26 year old up and coming actress and Luc is her 40-something, powerful boss. I realize this would not make for a romance novel (or at least not one of publishable length...although I for one would be up for 500 pages of unconsummated sexual tension, and then in the last 100 pages, after Lily has finished her run, won at least two awards, and has several new jobs lined up outside of Luc's influence, they finally get together), but the only thing I wanted throughout the whole book was for them not to get involved when Luc was her boss. While the power differential is not portrayed as coercive, it still very much exists. And there are serious professional repercussions for Lily that do not affect Luc in the same way or even at all. Plus, given all the recent news about rampant and appalling sexual harassment and assault by major figures in entertainment and the media, this just did not sit well with me.

I was loving this book for the chemistry between Lily and Luc and then this happened:

“’I say this as someone who would probably rescue her books first if
the flat burnt down and then come back for you, but you may not need
eight books for one weekend,’ …Lily slapped a hand down on a teetering
pile of books before it collapsed. ‘This is the third edit. I’ve already
weeded it down from fifteen.’”

I then knew that Lily was a soulmate and I was fully invested in this novel. I had a great time watching Luc and Lily and the books work things out.

Another one of my heroes:
