This is my 13th Beverly book and at this point I’m convinced she can’t write a bad book haha. I ADORE how she weaves history with romance and plot, it’s perfectly balanced every time honestly. 😮💨
This one also features the “that’s my wife” trope which I go feral for every dang time haha

I loved this one. Loreali was definitely a different kind of woman. Jake was a traditional man. There was a learning curve for sure for these two, but I enjoyed them so much.
The twins were a bonus and hi light. I love them!!

i m really liking jenkins’s books but the full on politics side of it sometimes throws me out of the story
i always appreciate getting educated on history, especially when it comes to black history but it can get a nit much in these books and it’s not really relevant to the story most of the times
still a great book and lovely romance!

I'm so happy to have finally read a book from Queen Beverly Jenkins! Her writing is as amazing as everyone says it is, and I will absolutely be checking out her backlist.
A Chance at Love is an incredible chosen-family historical romance between a strong, hilarious, bold, brave, unconventional gambler Loreli and hog-farmer and unofficial town veterinary Jake. She is used to living life on her own, making her own money, spending her own money, and going wherever her heart takes her, but she gets saddled down in a small town by Jake's adorable twin nieces who are newly under his care after their mother, his sister, passes away.
I can't even write much about this because I don't want to spoil anything—I went into this blindly and I recommend everyone does the same. I loved how Jenkins wove in feminism and politics with this story because Loreli never becomes a damsel in distress no matter what life threw her way. Once her and Jake stomped bumping heads their love story was really beautiful!
