DNF- I didn’t realize this was a reverse harem until I got about half way through. Might pick it back up in the future if I’m in the mood for a RH.

Quick Read

It pulls you in right from the beginning. It is a quick read. With a rollercoaster of energy. I truly enjoyed this book. Now on to the next one.

Ayla and her protectors

Wow. So this is a really good book. You definitely can’t take that away. It’s dark and broody and it gets super hot. The problem, for me, is that it ends in a cliffhanger and I hate cliffhangers. I don’t read duets. I don’t read cliffhangers. I like HEA’s. I like series - that are about different couples. But I don’t like cliffhangers. So while this book was amazing, it wasn’t what I was looking for.

Sometimes I download a bunch of books from Kindle Unlimited and take my time working through them. This is one of those books I had planned to get around to later rather than sooner (after finishing other trilogies I’d started), but I got the title mixed up with a novella I wanted to read, and I ended up starting it anyway. By the time I realized it was not, in fact, the book I’d planned to read, I was already totally sucked in with no regrets and by the time it ended, I was eager for book two.

There's a lot of build-up in this first book and if you’re looking for hot RH action, you’re going to have to put it on ice. In fact, I’d forgotten it was an RH romance when I read it and only saw hints of it in there. Still, I enjoyed the chemistry between the heroine, Ayla and hero #1, Marcus.

Ayla was moody and sometimes difficult to relate to at first, but after everything she’d gone through, it made sense that she had walls up and had a hard time trusting anyone. Of course those things would take time to change. I thought she had good character growth over the series and if you stick with it, her connection to the other two heroes develops well.

Out of the trilogies I’ve read this year, I found this to be one of the more gripping ones, and I read it straight through with no breaks between. Good plot and pacing, good chemistry, hot sex … I liked it a lot. I personally didn’t find it very dark but I guess that’s a matter of perspective depending on what you normally read.

Based on this series, I will definitely be checking out more Callie Rose!

Loved a lot of the ideas and concepts, loved Theo
