I struggled through the first third - I am simply not feeling it right now. I might try again later.

I’m absolutely Star-stuck. This book was so well written. I had no idea the depths Mary-Louise pulled from. She’s had so much in her life and still has so much more coming. I really didn’t know what to expect from this but it wasn’t that. It was brilliantly done. It makes me want to write letters to everyone in my life but I do not possess half of her intellect or introspection. There is so much enlightenment happening and you see her grow from each letter. Highly recommended.

Disappointed with this collection of short stories by actor Mary Louise Parker. I listened to the audio book performed by the gravely voiced actor whose work I have generally admired. The stories however were shapeless and lacking interesting characters and challenged. I grew tired of this quickly.

I'm a sucker for any book written in a letter/diary format so I knew I would be reading this one : )

I'm not a huge fan of Mary Louise Parker, having only seen her in Fried Green Tomatoes & as Bruce Willis girlfriend in Reds but boy can she write-she's truly talented!

Her writing is rich and descriptive. Each letter is written to a man that has impacted MLP's life in some way no matter how short their encounter like the cab driver, the firefighter, and the orderly. Other long-term relationships, like those with her priest, acting teacher or friends, reappear in the various letters offering a shoulder to cry on or sage advice.

Her best, heart-felt letters are written to her father and the unknown future boyfriend of her young daughter. Here her emotions jump off the page as she describes the last time her dad ate oysters and how she thinks her daughter aught to be treated by the man in her life.

This one should not be missed.

I wanted to like this book more than I did.

A memoir, told in letters to Mr. so and so. Some of the letters I loved. My favorites were Dear Firefighter and Dear Mr. Cabdriver. Others felt forced and I kept think who are you even talking about. It is no question that Mary-Louise Parker is super talented and is a very good writer, but this book felt very uneven and at times a little kitschy. I almost gave up on it but in the end am glad I finished. It is a sweet little book and I read it in two days.

The narration in this is amazing, as Mary Louise Parker narrates it herself and she does a great job really communicating the emotions and being really engaging. I loved listening to this- it was a good break from the witches, which has been going on forever. Also, she can write and parts of this were so beautiful and though parts I was like oh nooooo don't say that. no no no. Overall I enjoyed it and it felt honest and it was a really good audiobook

Beautifully written. Funny, sad, poignant and expressing a refreshingly honest faith. There are sections I want to go back to again and again.

Dear Mary-Louise, I wish you wrote under a pseudonym so you would know people love your writing because it's great, not because you are MLP.
