A good solid mystery with a slight twist having a forensic archaeologist as the main investigator.

Not my absolute favourite book in the world but seriously page-turning. I couldn't wait to start the next one.
I don't understand the use of phones in this book. It seems to be 2007. I was an adult with a cellphone in 2007. She has a landline and a cellphone on which she receives texts, but in the beginning of the book people only ever call her landline. She even gets an important phone message on her landline from the police several days late because she was visiting her parents for Christmas. But then the same policeman texts her on New Year's Eve. Why did not he just call her cellphone? By the end of the book, the landline is all but forgotten and people only call her cell.
In spite of giving it three stars, I am already wanting to read the second one.

I picked up the 14th book in this series from the library since it sounded like an interesting mystery. I had trouble figuring out how all the characters were related to each other and who was living in the same place. Contributing to my confusion is that the set of characters being followed changes mid chapter with out any warning. No those characters don't live with Ruth the author just jumped to talking about them. It was a bit of a puzzle to put together as I was reading so I put the book down and got out this book.
Reading this book helped clarify a few things and who was who in the cast of characters. I like the setting, a saltmarsh and that Ruth is an archeologist. I like that Ruth is able to figure out where the body is using her knowledge of archeology. The set of characters being following does change mid chapter as it did in the 14th book. It is not as confusing here but I still don't like that style of writing.
The series is a bit dreary for me. I am reading the second in the series now. Then I will decide if I want to continue with the series or find something that is lighter or more cheerful.

Really enjoyed reading this. Kind of a British Bones.
Forensic anthropologist Ruth Galloway finds herself involved in a murder investigation in brutally scenic Norfolk, England. Even though there are far too many close connections in the discovery of whodunnit, the characters and setting are convincing and engaging. Next please!

Very predictable plot, but i had fun reading it, i liked Ruth's character, but the parts about her weight were unnecessary, i liked the parts about the archeological finds, even tought i doubt you could just take a part of a iron age burial home with you to look at.
I liked it even tough it was very clear to me at the startwho kidnapped the girls, and also that the cat died.
