I thoroughly enjoyed every chapter of this book. I learned so much about the human body in death and was entertained the whole time.

Thoroughly enjoyable addition to my library of morbid curiosities :) Time was, I mindfully selected to read at least one non-fiction book about death each year, a tradition started about 20 years ago (not counting all the true crime titles I've consumed). I've lost count of that tracking, and have probably indulged more than once in several years, but this title is a blast of fresh air with its wit and pitch to young inquirers. There's a high concentration of laugh-out-loud portions that I insisted on rereading aloud to my long-suffering spouse, who much prefers humor related to living things.

Giving this book a rating doesn’t really feel fair, since it’s more of an anthology of fun curated facts than a narrative.

Regardless, it was highly informative and Doughty always has such a strong author voice that is fun to read!

I hope my cats know I’d be okay with them eating me- should the time come.

The other two books are more interesting but this was fun!

Fantastic book!

CWs: explicit descriptions of death (including animal death) and decay, discussions of grief, mentions of corpse desecration

In this little book, Ask a Mortician’s Caitlin Doughty answers questions collected from, as she puts it, “100 percent ethically sourced, free-range, organic children” that have to do with death, mortality, cadavers and more.

Doughty is famous for her death positivity mindset – namely the idea that one should have a healthy relationship to death, mortality and decay. I can say that her content has definitely helped me process the loss of my loved ones better than I would have otherwise. The core of this philosophy is that “we can't make death fun, but we can make learning about it fun” – a premise that she definitely delivers on here.

Will my Cat Eat my Eyeballs it not a book I can easily put in a precise age category. The style and complexity of the text are obviously suited to young children, but the questions are answered with enough detail to satisfy the needs of an adult as well. There were even some things that were new to me as a years-long Ask a Mortician fan. Be warned – Caitlin doesn’t sugar-coat or sanitize the topics. If a child asked about death poop, they get an answer about death poop. That’s it.

Very much enjoyed this book! I definitely recommend giving this a read if you, like me, aren’t super looking forward to dying! The book demystifies many preconceived ideas people have about death and answers a lot of questions about the topic, ranging from silly to serious.
