3.76 AVERAGE

This is a lighthearted read about a human learning that magic is real and navigating through that world. It's mainly an introduction to the world and the characters.

The protagonist is a sweet, level-headed young woman who is pretty much average in all ways except that she can see through spells. It's a nice break to read a book about a woman who simply wants to have a normal life nth has to deal with small challenges.

Parts of it are hard to swallow (that the main character can come up with solutions that ancient wizards haven't even contemplated), but it's still a fun and fast read if you don't want to have to think too hard.

So I thought this was a cute first book in this series. I ended up reading up to book #6 and the charm started to wear off though. It started to feel a bit repetitive after a while. My major issue in this book though is that there is still a lot that is explained that I had questions about. Also Katie's friend's obsession with dating and finding boyfriends felt weirdly out of place in this book.

In "Enchanted Inc." Katie Chandler who has moved to New York from Texas, is given an intriguing job offer. A company called MSI Inc. wants to hire her and sends her repeated emails telling her to apply. Since her current box makes Miranda Priestly from the Devil Wears Prada look nice, Katie responds to the email she comes face to face with two men who tell her that magic is real, and she is an immune. An immune is someone that magic doesn't affect at all. They need more people like her in order to tell if they are being cheated when they do contracts concerning spells with other magic users.

The plot was good. We had Katie getting used to living in a world where magic is real, gargoyles talk and are part of security, where wizards, fairies, and even a part ogre are part of her day to day life.

Katie has a crush on one of the guys at her job (Owen) who is in research and development. I hope you love reading about how much the guy blushes through six books cause it's a lot. I did like the character of Owen, but there's no much development with this character in book one. I would say that there's not a lot of development with many of the characters in this one.

We also have a character who is introduced in this one as well, the creator of MSI, Inc., Merlin himself. We find out that Merlin had a thousand year sleep and was awaken due to a threat to the magical community. The threat is a rival organization setting up selling bad spells. Honestly, the bad guy in this series was lame. I wanted more details about Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Other magical creatures, etc.

An interesting first book that spurred me to read the next five books though.

The reviews said light read, it's upright airy. Enchanted is a cute quick read but almost too vanilla for my standards. I read some reviews that said it would be good for pre teens and I wholeheartedly agree. The heroine is cute and likable. In fact it seems like everyone in the book is for that matter. I believe there is a "love triangle" being developed for the series but the rate it is going it may be awhile. Katie, Owen (and Ethan)are quite the innocents. It is insinuated Katie may want a romantic relationship with one of them but it moves at a snails pace, both verbally and physically. Don't get me wrong, I don't want 50 shades but 1 shade of vanilla would be nice;). Do I dare go out on a limb and assume this author intended the off-the-charts innocence (immunity) vs magic to parallel the dreams of young people coming to the big bad New York City. Maybe easier to swallow for an adult read. Definitely "brain candy" A solid 3 stars in my rating standards. I may even read another because of that cute factor and definitely recommending to my 12-year-old neighbor.

BC pick.

After a few heavy books this summer, I switched to this book without high expectations. I wanted some "fluff" and light, and it certainly delivered. I will say, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Usually when I'm going for light, chick-lit kind of books, I'm constantly rolling my eyes at the contrived writing and middling descriptions, but Enchanted, Inc. was a breath of fresh air. No eye-rolling here.

Katie Chandler is a Texas girl and New York City transplant, mired in the corporate world of working for a terrible boss when she is offered a job seemingly out of nowhere and she takes it. Turns out she's working for a company that specializes in magic.

Not only is it easy-breezy read, but it also literally takes you to a new world without being too heavy handed about it, and it's a fun ride. I plan on reading more of these books for quick reads.

You could say that my 4-star rating was because I was pleasantly surprised with my low expectations, but I'll stick with it.

I think this is a fun twist on small town girl moves to the big city.

This book was quite a surprise. I picked it up just to pass my time and it turned out to be pretty good. It contains elements of fantasy, chick-lit, and humor. I am going to read the second one too for sure.

Re-read:

I still love this book and I actually finally found my own copy too. I enjoy Katie's adventures and how there is romance but the story isn't all about romance. The story is quite funny, the plot is easy to follow and there are many likeable characters. Owen is adorable but I also like Sam and Rod! I am off to start book 2 now. Bye bye ;)
