It's been a long while since I've laughed out loud while reading.
I like this book. I like everthing from the trailer park grade meth to the foot fetish references. It's absured in the best possible way. Princess Donut is a treasure. Surprisingly, I got emotional a few times. One of which was translating the Spanish the Hoarder was speaking. The last was discovering what was happening during the last boss battle.

So many friends love this book so much, I wanted to love it more. I did like it but I felt bogged down in all the loot box and point descriptions. Maybe that would be more satisfying for me if I played more games. However I did like it enough that I want to read the next one.

Okay, this book had crack in it. Truly, it was such an addicting read and so funny. The humor had such an iron-clad grip on my neck that, even during the slower parts, I couldn’t stop reading.
Carl is a great main character to follow because he’s flawed and realistic but so logical and compelling. Donut is such an amazing supporting character and probably the funniest part of the books.
I’m legitimately so thrilled to continue on with this series!!

I think this book and series is the best I have read in a long time. I could not put it down. The character development is amazing along with the world building. I recommend this book to everyone I can either the audiobooks which are amazing or the books themselves. If Matt ever comes to town I want him to sign my copy

I was surprised by how funny this book is. I expected the apocalypse and dark themes and violence based on the description, but the humour is a wonderful surprise.
Definitely recommend for fans of the hunger games, Chain-Gang All-Stars, and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Wow! Really enjoyed this, and burned through it fast than expected. A fast paced adventure following an odd/couple brought together by fate, Dinniman has done a good job of including these scenes of tenderness and humanity without feeling like a genre jump from the violence and grit.
Surprisingly, I also found parts of this quite inspiring and moving. Like under the dust jacket, You Will Not Break Me is quite the motto to live by, but I think is also very apt for those of us who feel aligned with Carl. Of course, things were bad before, but in recent months it does feel like the carpet has been yanked out from under us, and we are being forced to go through increasingly mindless gauntlets just to preserve ourselves. If this sounds close to home, I would urge you to take Carl’s advice to heart: don’t think about Level 9, just prepare yourself for the next level.

Lots of video game and ttrpg references, but in enough context I think anyone who has someone under 35 in their life would be able to follow.
