This book is a different format from the BDB books. It’s interrelated but also kinda separate. And the format leaves you in the dark for most of the book which is annoying. There is almost no description of the wolf creatures despite one of the main characters being one.

Content/Trigger Warning: Suicide (on page), animal cruelty, animal attacks, cancer and medical experimentation.

Book 1 of The Lair of the Wolven, a Black Dagger Brotherhood spin-off, set in the same universe. Claimed is the story of Lydia and Daniel with Xhex from the BDB. Claimed barely touches the bases of this new story and it leaves so many questions. About 3/4 of the book is The Wolf Study Project facility and Lydia the Wolf behaviorist, the mysterious "drifter" Daniel with chapters from Xhex's POV.

I enjoyed Claimed. It definitely has a different sound in comparison to BDB, but with glimpses at some of the BDB crew. I am looking forward to reading the next book.

J.R. Ward has done it again. There are very few books she’s written in the BDB world that I didn’t like and this wasn’t one of them. I will say that the supernatural element to Lydia and Daniel’s story is minimal. This book read more like a mystery novel which was refreshing and different from Ward’s other books. There is some unanswered questions and a couple twists you don’t see coming but I’d definitely recommend this book, even to someone unfamiliar with the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

What in the world???? A cliffhanger??? How will I survive a year not knowing. Maybe the author needs a housekeeper? Dog Walker? Landscaper? I don't want payment. I want hints of what is to come. I want a peak at book two, to drool, to devour. The story started slow. The story grabbed me. The story DID NOT let go. Yes, I could become her housekeeper just for a peak or twenty.

Lydia works at a wolf sanctuary in upstate New York. Something is going on. Wolves are being poisoned. The boss is acting out of character, not even showing for work. The vet has a thing for Lydia, obvious to everyone but her.

A drifter arrives looking for a job. Life gets interesting when he is hired as a groundskeeper. The reader is soon giving glimpses of what is going on. The build was intense. I thought I figured it out. I couldn't have been more wrong. I few chapters later, I thought I had really figured it out. I was wrong again. Mind Blown. The suspense was intense. The crimes were immense. The Danger had Lydia locking and relocking her doors and windows. She didn't care about herself. She cared about the wolves. Their safety was worth everything.

This was confusing at times and so slow. There was almost nothing about the wolven in this book and a lot about the murder. I enjoy a good murder mystery, but I have to be in the mood for it. What I was in the mood for when picking this book up was a paranormal romance with a hint of murder. Not a murder mystery with little romance and almost nothing paranormal. Plus I'm not a fan of poorly written cliffhangers. There's a way to do them and this wasn't it.
