I credit Twilight with my love of vampires and paranormal fiction. I was just starting out in the library when the second or third book came out and we could not keep the series on the self. Well, one day it checked back in and there was no one waiting for it so I checked it out and consumed it in one weekend. I was hooked and ended up reading the series three or four times over the next few years. Eventually, I moved on but Twilight will always have a place in my home library. I was so disappointed when Midnight Sun got shelved and mourned the possibility of seeing events unfold through Edwards's eyes.
Enter 2020, the year from hell, except for this one 600 page escape. This was perfect timing. I came into work one day and it was sitting on the new bookshelf and I checked it out before anyone else had a chance, librarian privilege, lol.
Midnight Sun has taken me much longer to read than Twilight but I'm not as avid a reader as I used to be. I blame aging eyesight and a new love of World of Warcraft... Anyway, I have made it through and am so happy Ms. Meyer finished the book. This was a wonderful trip down memory lane and a great escape while the world is burning around us. I loved reading about these two falling in love from Edward's side. We learn so much more about his character and those around him, minus Bella because through him we have windows into everyone else's mind. We get to learn just what an ass Rose truly is, how complex Jasper is, how Alice loves Bella just as much as he does, and so much more.
Now I don't think Ms. Meyer is going to continue the story from Edward's perspective, which is a shame but I understand. Edward does overthink everything... While many of the problems with the story remain we do get to see that Edward is aware of much of his creepier aspects. Hey, these are essentially two kids falling in love for the first time. Most people are pretty stupid, obsessive, and creepy with their first love, but speaking as someone who has been married 25 years to the only man she ever dated it can work out.
I liked this book, appreciate it for what it is, and wish there were more but I feel content with what we were given as fans. Meyer never owed us this book, but I am grateful she delivered just the same. I am excited to read about the possibility of more Twilight books, sign me up. For now, I might journey further down this Twilight lane and reread the next three books again. I'm not quite ready to leave this trip down memory lane.

It really explained how clueless Edward was without being able to read Bella's mind.

Like many of you, I have been waiting a very long time for this book to be published. I remember reading the leaked copy 12 years ago and absolutely loving it and then being subsequently depressed because we were never going to get the full version. Finally getting to read this book was an experience. Teenage me absolutely adored this book to pieces. Adult me...has opinions.
First thing I will say is that Edward's POV is very interesting. We get more insight into the minds of other characters and I felt like it helped me understand their actions throughout the story a lot better. I also found Edwards perspective on Charlie to be very interesting. Bella's character was also a lot more interesting from Edwards POV. As expected, this book is VERY angsty because Edward has a lot of self hate, which I kind of understood his reasoning for but after the first 400 pages I couldn't help but roll my eyes every time he mentioned how much of a monster he was.
If you're a fan of the Twilight Saga, I definitely think you will enjoy this. It was interesting to read this as an adult and have a new perspective on it and overall I liked the experience.

Midnight Sun is Stephenie Meyer's gift to Twilight fans. It answers it all those little questions you had about Edward or the plot of Twilight; it gives a wonderful insight into the Cullen family life; and it rounds out Bella's character and makes her much more likeable and relatable.
If you didn't like Twilight, Midnight Sun isn't likely to change your mind - maybe give this one a miss. But if you lovedddd Twilight and never moved away from your 13-year-old self who couldn't put the books down, you need to read this!

Reading this book was enlightening and painful. Seeing the same story but through Edward's eyes makes everything make so much more sense. The ending was especially painful to read from his point of view but I expected that given what I know about the rest of the saga. I highly recommend reading this book after reading Twilight, you can't read them out of order. Stephanie Myer, you've done it again.
