The audiobook narrated by Jake Abel was superb!! His voice is exactly as I would imagine Edward’s to be and the other characters were voiced respectably. I actually found myself reluctant to read the book without the audiobook playing, which is not normal for me. I will usually easily switch from one to the other if the library has both available. But his narration was really wonderful and I didn’t want to miss a sentence!
Now for the book. It was good. Satisfying as a retelling can be I think. But. Edward’s head is a tense and over-thought place to be. It could get a little too tense to keep reading and at times, I just needed a break from the intensity. I found myself missing Jacob’s light hearted relief often. It was very interesting to read about events and thoughts that weren’t included in the first Twilight book. I especially like the descriptions about Alice’s cover-up of Bella’s accident and her covering all their tracks. Also, the car chase scenes were pretty amazing.
It was a little mundane to read through the scenes I was already very familiar with from the original book, but there were always slight tweaks due to the p.o.v. change. So it was never boring for long.
Overall, enjoyable and satisfying that I didn’t have to end this series with Breaking Dawn. Always nice to drag out your favorite world and characters a little longer.

ok so at first this was kinda boring and i didn’t like having my perception of mystery guy edward shifted so much BUT then it started getting a lot better (meadow, bella’s house and cullen house chapters are the BEST + when they sit down at school to talk).
sooo, about mr edward. i feel like so much of this book was stephenie trying to justify the fact that sometimes he comes across as an asshole, by letting us see his thought behind the things he says. and like, all right. i’m weak! i’ll bite. HOWEVER that’s still BAD because all bella gets is mood swings and angry voices, and intentions in this case don’t come into play to how she felt (or should’ve felt) about it. granted, i haven’t read eclipse nor breaking dawn yet so idk if they miraculously have some conversations about the way he acts but um i doubt it.
(also it’s clear he’s still too protective and obsessed but we’re not going to get into that)
in the end, i’m quite glad i read this. for some reason i completely started dreading the stuff that happens after baseball (i even closed out the movie after it) but GOD those scenes were GOOD. grand theft auto, anyone? cool girl psychic doing her thing? chef’s kiss, baby.

SIMPLEMENTE, ERA NECESARIOOOOO, leer toda la perspectiva de Edwar fue magnífico, no me intereso la escritura o la narrativa que le diera la escritora, simplemente lo necesitaba.

I think it's time for me to officially let go of the Twilight series. While this series may have served its purpose while I was a college student in the middle of finals, it is no longer serving me as a thirty-something mom of two.
I honestly just don’t care to hear the story from Edward’s perspective. I found him to be melodramatic, and the writing was long-winded and repetitive. I am unabashedly Team Edward (come at me!), but I feel like if I continue I will end up on Team Nobody. Plus, I found that as I got increasingly annoyed, the narrative reading voice in my head sounded more and more like a cross between a bad soap opera actor and a stereotypical emo kid and I was starting to annoy myself.

I realized I don't have it in me to reread such a dense book rn. Also probably shouldn't have watched the movie before starting this lol.
I'm off to read another book with vampires in it!
