This is a feel good story where you can feel the angst of all the main characters. It leaves you thinking about the ramifications of one's actions and wishing for another few pages.

Graff, the pilot, has a huge secret that even Ell, the doctor and his lover, doesn’t know. After the accident, he will have some explaining to do.

If you are interested, you can read it for free on Tor: Sinew and Steel and What They Told

“It’s the stories. The stories, the experiences. Everything. A computer could do it, but then we wouldn’t get the . . . the experience. The hormones. The dopamine. The endorphins. The meat and nerves of it all, right? That’s the important bit. We go out into the galaxy and collect stories, and then we bring them home. It’s who we are, it’s what we do. And love, we go out to find all the love we can and try to keep it . . .”

I found this free short story today on Tor's newsletter. It was a great story, very well told, the kind of story a cyborg would collect for his people. Sadly, too short.

I loved this short story but it was over too soon! I'd love it to be developed into a short novel or novella.
