it’s a mafia bully romance but not a lot of relationship building

We spend 1/3 of the book without the main characters meeting. Then the next 2/3rds are sex and the mc getting treated poorly. At the end everyone is in love and I’m not sure how we got there. Without the first third of the book our mc would have no personality, it peeks through sparsely which is a shame because she had so much spunk.

I think I know why Valentina and Fausto have a connection but the other two are just kinda the other dudes in the rh. Also Sal didn’t do anything to redeem himself.

Definitely my least favorite it was annoying how easily sal was forgiven it felt so rushed and i don’t even know how there’s any coming back from that and how the marco situation was handled was so terrible they didn’t believe a word she said there were no cute moments it was just sal being rude or sex scenes no moments where i thought they had any sort of connection

I have read the other books in the series and I absolutely loved them. This book made me feel disgusting to read. I was only able to read half of it before stopping. The book felt exactly like child porn and was disgusting. She was still a child, not graduating high school yet, to marry someone way older than her. I understand that there was a deal that needed to be paid, but she couldn’t be older like the other girls. I wanted to throw up while reading it.

Dark and steamy

This series continues to wow me. This story was different because we meet the characters before they meet each other. We get insight as to why they are they way they are. Valentina lives a sad, lonely and sheltered life- like if Rapunzel was a mafia princess. Salvatore tries to live a normal life, as normal as possible, but this majorly backfires and has horrible ramifications. As the oldest, he's taken on the brunt of the responsibilities and secrets, while his brothers Armani and Fausto try to support him and play their roles. I started this book fully hating the Moretti brothers, but found myself rooting for them to get their acts together. Valentina develops from a mousy character and learns to toughen up and find her voice. Loved it!!

These Mafia Wars books have so far been four of my favorite books of the year. I love how each stand alone story is so different, yet with the same or similar themes. The stand out difference here is the FMC's age, Valentina has literally just turned 18 and has NO idea about the pact, her part in it or what the hell is going on. She's lived away from her father and brothers and has pretty much been looking after herself, except for the housekeeper and every mod con she could literally ever want! Salvatore, Armani and Fausto are made men, hot, blood thirsty and merciless. Salvatore has more reasons to hate Valentina purely because of her bloodline, then to ever give their attraction a chance. The twins want her and are prepared to go a bit slower than their usual pace with women. Throw in a stalker, the politics of the Morelli family and them all finding their place with each other and you have an explosive read that will have you struggling to put it down while you fan your face aggressively!

A miss for me...

Wilted Orchid is the fourth book in this shared world of Mafia Wars. I haven't read the other 3 books but I will definitely check it out later. This is a contemporary, RH mafia with a dash of bully and age-gap romance.

I have read most of this author's books and loved her dark, twisted, steamy style of writing. To discover that this is her first foray to contemporary romance, I was surprised and truly looking forward to read her newest book since I'm a sucker for mafia romance. After reading it, I want to say that I really am sorry but this is a miss for me.

I couldn't connect with her FMC, Valentina and the same could be said to her love interests. I find Valentina's inner ramblings a bit inappropriate and cringey during crucial times (I'm sure you know what scenes those was). Not too mention, the first few chapters a tad dragging for me. The build up of the relationship lacks depth which irks me because there's a potential in this story. I don't mind reading a big book if it's justified by giving me the depth that I'm thoroughly missing in this one.
