"You're brave and passionate, and when you love, you do it with your whole heart."
Are you looking for an FMC who knows her worth? Who is strong and fierce from the beginning?
Target: Katarina Quinn
I loved Kat from the moment she appeared on the page. She's snarky, but also kind and loving. She knows what she wants, and as she says, she reaches out and takes it. I loved that she was unashamedly herself from the beginning, strong and capable. But she still grows throughout the book, but in a softer way than what one may be used to.
And Matthew! *swoon* He's the golden retriever to Kat's black cat. And they're perfect for each other! Their love story was absolutely beautiful.
If Kat and Matt aren't enough to convince you to read this book, then let all the wonderfully and fully fleshed side characters enter the chat. Abe, Tony, Ethan, Mellie, Ray...and even the rascal Paul.
Oh, and don't forget about the hiests!! đ Gotta figure out who that kat burglar is after all.

This is an unconventional HistRom for many reasons:
1. It's set in post-WWI Savannah, Georgia;
2. It's written in first person/single POV present tense (HistRom is unusually devoted to 3rd person/dual POV past tense);
3. The FMC isn't just in a love triangle; she's in a committed open relationship with her childhood BFF.
Kat is one member of the 4-person Savannah gang, The Wolves. She and the other 3 members are in a power struggle for the city's underworld. She's also a scholarship student at the city's prestigious finishing school, where she mingles with the upper crust of the American moneyed class. She uses her position as a student to gather intel for the Wolves to plan their heists. When gang leader (and Kat's true love) asks her to get close to a son of one of those leading families, she reluctantly agrees... only to fall for him for real real.
Kat's character development and changing perception of self throughout the book are highlights. Her close relationship - indeed, her conception of self - are related to her upbringing on the streets (totally understandable!). But she has to really look at her idea of herself as a loyal, courageous independent thinker and compare it with the actual state of her current behavior. The love triangle, while a trope that many readers dislike, is the perfect vehicle to convey Kat's dynamic character.
This book is really exuberant and unexpected. The Wolves are violent criminals, not a group of honorable merry men, and the book doesn't shy away from that violence. Kat as the POV character also participates, so be aware!
22-Word Summaries:â
â
Meg: Kat is a debutante AND a criminal, and she canât pretend that Matthew is âjust a markâ for more than 10 minutes. â
â
Laine: Morality is a luxury when you're trying to survive and is often absent along side crazy money. Kat doesn't think that way.â
This objective review is based on a complimentary copy of the novel.

ARC Review-
âSavannah Royalsâ begins with Katarina âKatâ Quinn who is orphaned at the tender age of six, and is taken in by a group of other young orphans who grow up to become one of the most well-known and feared bayou gangs in Savannah, the Royals, aptly nicknamed the Wolfpack. During the Prohibition era, Kat attends an academy known to teach young women of high society of whom she portrays, but secretly, she is actually a con artist and thief notoriously known as the Cat Burglar. When she meets well-to-do Dr. Matthew DaMolin, things begin to become blurry for Kat, as the lines between business and pleasure start to intertwine. This story was so gripping with its vibrant setting in New Orleans, its thrilling heist plot, witty characters, and seductive banter. I loved the camaraderie between the members of the Wolfpack and found their relationships to be endearing, regardless of the tangled complexities that the author intertwined throughout them. I also really enjoyed Matthew DaMolinâs character who was dripping with sweetness but also had an undercover wild side that only Kat seemed to be able to pull out of him. This book was smart yet sexy and had a bittersweet ending. This was an A+ read for me and I would definitely recommend to others.

Do I like love triangles? Not really. But do I love this love triangle? Absolutely!
Do I love the âroaring 20sâ? Absolutely! Do I love a heist? Duh! Do I love a baddie as an FMC? An intelligent character with all the Southern Charm? Of course! Do I like love triangles? Not really. But do I love this love triangle? Absolutely! What a ROMP!!! The side characters were as engaging as the MCs; I would absolutely want to read more about them in the future. And I will be forever grateful that I received this early copy from Lindsay @lindsay_barrett_books and gained the honor of her friendship. This fabulous, sexy, scorching hot, clever historical romance with a heist on the side comes tomorrow and yâall should not skip it.
When I think of Savannah I imagine the genteel south, hat clad gentlewomen with no white shoes after Labor Day sipping mint juleps and yes, Iâm probably guilty of the same stereotyping that people have of Scotland, all kilted men and shortbread but Savannah Royals was a darker tale that went into the gritty underbelly of the historical town as con woman Katerina Quinn, who leads a double life, straddling both worlds does what any grifter knows they shouldnât do and begins to develop feelings for her mark, Dr Matthew DaMolin. Set in the post war era of prohibition, with the world still recovering from the great war, the overall story set a fast pace as Kat struggled not only with her worlds colliding, but loving two completely different men, the gentleman doctor or the rogue whoâd saved her as a child and given her the only family sheâd ever known
Overall, this was an engaging and unique read with an intriguing plot. I appreciated the strong and enlightened heroine who at times almost felt like a woman out of her time, but her character development was brilliant as she faced the moral dilemma of what path and what man to choose. The secondary characters were well written with a combined complex past with Kat and their âfound familyâ. I honestly canât believe this is from a debut author but hereâs hoping we havenât heard the last of the Savannah Wolves.

wow wow wow i adored this! this is the atmospheric historical romance i didnât know i needed. and as a born and bred southern girl who loves visiting savannah, this book felt like a love letter to the beauty of the south at times.
Kat is a character that you love to root for. Her decisions around Paul and Matthew felt genuine, especially for her age. I also loved her father/daughter like relationship with Ray, they made my heart melt.
Matthew DaMolin is the man that every woman deserves. The way he openly accepted every facet of Kat and didnât force her to change is exactly what Kat needed in her life. That quiet reassurance that the person you love will love you unconditionally.
I also, as always, adored our band of side characters. I loved the ever evolving friendship of Mellie and Kat!
All in all, an amazing book from Barrett! Thank you to the author and the Nerd Fam for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you to the NerdFam for the chance to read this ARC! Diving in, this book was outside my comfort zone, and thatâs definitely okay. Itâs a historical romance with mystery and drama vibes, which did keep me interested in the process! Because the book is set in a historical setting, the language is definitely something that the author remained dedicated to which I liked! I feel for readers that enjoy some sort of drama with their romance, and schemes this book definitely would be worth the read!
