This book is a continuation of the Road To Dalton and further follows the lives of most of the characters in the first book. The book is a light and enjoyable read.

It was weird reading this book while I was watching episodes of The Brokenwood Mysteries, because they both have vivid casts, and are set in small towns, so things kept conflating in my mind. But, I am absolutely sold on the stories of Dalton, and like the first volume, this follow-up did not disappoint. The action picks up five years after the end of the previous novel. The initial shock of that book's events have worn off, and people have settled into new routines. Many of the themes revolve around parents and children: Nate and Sophie, Rose and her boys, Bev and Richard and Nate, Annette (lost in the absence of a child), Greg and his parents, and (new?) character Vera, trying to figure out if she wants what her parents want. The storytelling here is sublimely simple and complex, relatable and also deeply thoughtful. I was delighted to read there will be another, concluding volume to this series later this year, and I wait for it with great anticipation.
This was a really good story. Found some nice tidbits that made me stop and consider what I just read.
I bet there going to be a #3 in this series
