Terry Pratchett is one of my favourite authors - and since this is one of his earlier books, I was looking forward to reading it. Sadly it didn't wow me.

Part of the problem might be that it's a Rincewind book and I've never been able to picture him. Maybe it's because the book covers always show an old, grey-bearded figure whereas the text seems to suggest somebody younger. The other issue was that the fight between the wizards just went on and on and on....

I felt it would've been much more interesting if the character of the Sourcerer had been better developed. He seemed to be a cardboard character on the edge of the action.
