I listened to the audiobook and I didn't want it to end. I wanted this to be a real podcast and I wanted it to be a happy ending.
But what I want isn't what I got. It ended. It's not a real podcast. And it's not a happy ending. Once I realized I wasn't going to get another Sadie POV after that cliffhanger, and that it was just all going to be the podcast, I knew it wasn't going to end the way I hoped.
This book was a punch to the gut. It was relentless in the awfulness of adults and how Sadie had no real adult figures to look up to except her surrogate grandmother; but really, she fought against any affection from her.
But it was hopeful also? How Sadie was just as relentless in her search and didn't let anything, even excruciating pain stop her or even slow her down. Everyone she met along the way was their own version of awful, but that didn't give her pause.
I highly recommend the audiobook version of this book. The full cast and juxtaposition between Sadie and the podcast made for an audiobook experience I've never had before. The emotion in the actress who played Sadie was heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. You fully believe she is going to find this man and that she is going to kill him. You want to believe in her and cheer her on.
You can feel the guilt and pain she feels about her sister's murder in every word and the detached podcast moving alongside her story was jarring, but in such a good way. The emotion vs the facts. The person suffering from psychological trauma vs the academic paper after the patient is studied, is how I thought about it.

2019 Book Challenge - Book With A One Word Title
4 1/2 ✨ 🎧
This was brilliant! Heartbreaking and difficult, but brilliant. I chose to listen to the audio version rather than reading, and I have to say it was one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to. Boasting a full cast, it really brought to life the podcast chapters of the story and made all the characters seem real. An amazing production.
I can’t recommend this book enough - but be prepared to be faced with some confronting material.

This broke my heart and everyone needs to read it/listen to it.
I’m so glad I decided to finally take a chance on audiobooks because this book was born to be an audiobook.
Sadie is a young lady who puts everyones needs above her own and is looking out for everyone else, unfortunately no one is looking out for her.
The saddest part of it all is that this is not a unique story, this is the story missing girls around the world and the hardships that they face and have to overcome. The heartbreak is that it's not just fiction, it's real life, and it shouldn't be.
No review could ever do it justice, but this book is one of the most hard hitting books I’ve ever experienced. And that’s what this book is. An experience.

Finally finished reading this book. Don't get me wrong, I do love the book but other priorities came along the way. I am just embarrassed that it took me 5 months to finish it.
I picked up this book when everyone was talking about it in youtube and bookstagram. I got curious but thank God i did read it because i love the format. The transition from Sadie's point of view to the podcast. It was genius to make Sadie go first then the podcast next as we follow the clues Sadie left.
I didn't expect this book to be deep. I was surprised to discover that it has different issues like; drugs, pedophilia, murder and so on. The story was well thought/researched and written. Kudos to Courtney Summers. I will definitely check more work from this author.
I highly recommend this book to be read in audiobook format.

I don’t wanna say much about this but if you have a chance to actually listen to this book, do it! The podcasts episodes, Sadie’s POV, it gets you just so much more into the story!!
I hate to say I loved it because of the sensitive topic but recommend. As the emotional wreck that I am - writing this with teary eyes.
