I don’t wanna say much about this but if you have a chance to actually listen to this book, do it! The podcasts episodes, Sadie’s POV, it gets you just so much more into the story!!
I hate to say I loved it because of the sensitive topic but recommend. As the emotional wreck that I am - writing this with teary eyes.

where do i even start with this review?
this book was so raw and it spoke so much truth about the fact that there are missing girls everyday unaccounted for, and most people don't care enough or they are scared of that fact so they choose to ignore it...
anyways, it made me cry
here are some of my favorite, most authentic quotes:
“I realized pretty early on that the who didn’t really matter so much.
That anybody who listens to me, I end up loving them just a little.”
“Paul taught me a person committed to silence can suggest importance, strength. So long as they’re a man, I mean. It’s not an option when you’re a girl, not unless you want people to think you’re bitch.”
“It’ll h-heal f-fine.”
“It’ll heal ugly.”
But most things do.”
“Girl with a busted face, torn-up arm, begging for the opportunity to save other girls. Why do I have to beg for that?”
“Like all real monsters, he hides in plain sight.”
“Sadie must’ve told me every time she saw me how much she hated him. I didn’t listen. I thought she was being a kid but … she was never a kid.” this quote hit me specially hard because of the amount of times that kids tell the truth and are simply not believed because they are 'kids'.
“Girls go missing all the time. And ignorance is bliss. I didn’t want this story because I was afraid. I was afraid of what I wouldn’t find and I was afraid of what I would.”

There’s just something about Sadie. From the opening paragraph, you can tell this book is going to be different. This is a fairly original format, where not only is the main POV supplemented by a podcast investigation, but the podcast occurs after Sadie’s own story. So, there are multiple timelines involved in explaining the same series of events, one in the present where Sadie tells the audience what IS happening to her, and the podcast in their present describing the past and trying to uncover what DID happen.
The actual plot was pretty great, with interesting twists and mysterious characters. Everyone’s motivations were constantly in doubt, keeping the reader on edge. The ending is where this book became amazing. Without giving away any spoilers, just know that you can’t possibly be disappointed about this conclusion. Especially, once you think about it and acknowledge how realistic it is.
The Characters...
In Sadie, the heroes and villains are pretty clearly defined, making this mystery different from most. Sadie is wonderfully written and obviously brave beyond measure. The events and people in her life dramatic and treacherous. Completely flawed human beings, some who were inherently evil and some who were just trying to make the best of terrible circumstances.
Audiobook Review...
This might be one of my favorite audiobooks ever! I mostly read audiobooks because I have young children, so not a lot of time to sit and read. Don’t’ get me wrong, I love them, but I won’t choose the audiobook over the print version…usually. This audiobook was so good, that I would suggest you listen to it even if you have already read this book. The production value was simply off the charts.
Memorable Lines…
“Every little thing about you can be a weapon, if you're clever enough.”
― Courtney Summers, Sadie
“It was a terrible thing, sure, but we live in a world that has no shortage of terrible things. You can't stop for all of them.”
― Courtney Summers, Sadie

It's haunting, sad, engaging, enraging, passionate. I could go on. The plot alone is enough to inspire a reaction and the way the characters elevate the story is extraordinary. The format of radio show and the story is interesting, the book is playing a game of cat and mouse within itself. There are messages about family, addiction, sibling relationships, friendships. The imagery is peak. Over the course of reading this, it just calls you back.
Graphic: Pedophilia, Blood
Moderate: Sexual assault
Telling the story from to differ start points and view points doesn't always work and this does a great job to pay homage to podcasts and what they do in our society while still enraveling us in a story.
Good read!
Good read!
Intense read. Interesting format switching back and forth between podcast hosts and Sadie herself. Crime junkies will like this one. Loved the representation of a main character with a stutter.
Beautifully written. I listened to the audio book and I was so engaged that I listen to the entire book in 2 sittings. The voice acting was great, the story was appropriately disturbing and engaging, and the characters were well developed. An incredible story.
