This book probably wasn’t bad but I just can’t get on with audiobooks and I tried again but it wasn’t for me. I get so lost and miss so much info that by the end I had no clue really what was happening and couldn’t have cared less. I should have just stopped but after reaching the halfway mark I couldn’t bare the thought of DNFing without anything to show for the time I’d wasted. Maybe I will pick up the book one day??
I listened to the audiobook version and was pretty pleased with how they represented Sadie's stutter. I hate that the book basically has an unknown ending for Sadie, but when you think about it, that's probably the true ending for so many people who grew up under similarly tough circumstances. I hated the realization that it was Sadie's faked postcard that split them apart.
This book broke my heart. It makes it obvious that child abuse and missing children are something very common place and I honestly would rather live in ignorance of that fact. It doesn't matter that it's a piece of fiction. The writing makes it real and Sadie breathes both in her scenes and the ones where the second narrator follows her steps in hope of finding her.
I actually feel like it's very mature despite the lead being a teenager. I'm not sure I would recommend it for a YA audience without an adult reading it first and making sure they can talk about it.

Because I cant take another dead girl.
I'm near the end of Sadie by Courtney Summers and oh my goodness!! This is one of the best books I've ever heard/read/everything. The multiple narrators are amazing and the story is heartbreaking. Everyone should read it ASAP.

”Sadie” is a haunting story about a girl looking for justice for her sister that was murdered. The subject is tackled in an interesting way with chapters alternating between Sadie’s first-person account of her journey and the podcaster that is trying to find her. The podcast chapters are especially interesting as they aren’t just episodes with narration but include interviews with various people Sadie comes into contact along the way.

The story is so very heavy. I teared up several times. Trigger warnings should be checked prior to going into it. I haven’t felt such grief for a character since The Night Swim by Megan Goldin.
Summers did an exceptional job of telling a difficult story in a raw, but mindful way.
This had 5-star potential for me, but the ending and a few other things kept it at 3.5.

This isn’t a book that I think deserves a twist rating due to the gravity of the subject matter. Plus, I wouldn’t necessarily categorize it as a “thriller.” Nothing was particularly “twisty.” It was more of an unraveling of trying to find out what happens.

TOP TIER! It is by far one of the best audio productions I’ve listened to all year. I do not think I would’ve enjoyed this book near as much as I did if I had read the print version. There is a full ensemble cast with different voice actors reading in scenes that include dialogue. The podcast episodes are exceptional and felt like a real podcast. LISTEN TO THE AUDIOBOOK!!!!!

My heart broke a million times. 😭😭😭😭😭
When Sadie is searching for the man she is certain killed her little sister..
My heart broke when I came upon the realization that he preyed on little girls.
My heart broke again when you realize Sadie thinks she is responsible for her sister running away, and thus dying.
My heart broke a thousand times when there is no happy ending to this story. When you realize that Sadie disappeared for good.
And how this is the story of so many little girls out there.
I hear you.
I won't forget.

This is a tough book to get through, yet it was also compulsively readable (or rather listenable, as I opted or the audio version, which I think made the podcast aspect feel more real). I agree with other reviewers that is is relevant and emotional, yet also deeply disturbing and will be triggering to some. That being said, I did not feel it was as original or inventive as I had expected it to be, given so many rave reviews. Often my expectations for popular and very highly rated books are so high, I might judge them with different criteria than books that are averagely rated, because I find I am often disappointed in them. Sadie wasn't disappointing, and I think it's Courtney Summer's best, but it if you're looking something that will blow you away with clever twists and turns, this may not be it. Then again, I probably read too much crime fiction to be easily surprised by it anymore;-)
this book is really well written. i couldn't stop reading it, but after being done, i don't know if I should feel content or empty. I'm overwhelmed with emotions for Sadie. her character felt so real, and her journey felt so real and so relatable. It's definitely a book I enjoyed reading.
This read like a podcast with all the voices! I really liked that we heard the reporters side and Sadie's side so as the reader, I knew both sides and could piece the story together. I connected with this story, so could be biased. I'm just sad that we don't know for sure what happened in the end, but for once I'm okay with it. I know the ending I wanted so I'm okay to make the book end that way in my head.
I'd say older teen just because it's a bit intense.
Triggers: molestation

Brutal, difficult and disturbing material. I really enjoyed the structure of this story, which switches back and forth from conventional first person narrative, to podcast, relating the events that were precipitated by the death of a thirteen-year old girl and the disappearance of her nineteen-year old sister, Sadie. The reasons for Sadie's disappearance are slowly revealed as we follow Sadie cross-country in her search for her drug addict mother's former boyfriend. The podcast picks up some time after Sadie leaves home, and slowly retraces her route, interviewing the people Sadie interacted with, and getting a picture of Sadie's motives, drive. Sadie's sections give us her overwhelming grief, love and sense of responsibility for her younger sister Mattie. We're gradually told of Sadie's own pain and fury over what was done to her and how nothing can stop her from finding the former boyfriend. It's interesting also getting various strangers' impressions of Sadie through the podcast as she follows the trail.
The story is raw and brilliantly told, and all too familiar, in some ways. What Courtney Summers does with the structure of her story, the emotions she captures, and the quality of the writing, elevate this story from interesting to riveting.
