I am loving the covers on this series of books! They have such rich, vivid colors and the matte coating and embossing make them feel so lush.
I have breezed through the first two books in the Throne of Glass series so far. The first book captured my interest and in this second one, the stakes for our main character, Celaena, are even higher than they were in book one. The relationship dynamics between characters have more layers in this book, and it was interesting to see Celaena work through different puzzles and threats as the story unfolded.
Crown of Midnight is a bit more gruesome in places than book one was, so I ended up liking it a little less than Throne of Glass. The twists in the plot were generally good, but there was a bit near the end that kind of jumped out of nowhere at me. As someone who didn’t have much exposure to the world of SJM or her books (or even this subgenre) before picking up these two books, that last twist didn’t really make sense to me when I first read it. It seemed to throw the series in a new direction that I wasn’t expecting, so I’m still processing how I feel about that. I’ll still continue on with the next book, though. I’ve started reading the prequel novella collection now, then will follow with the third book in the series, as I’ve seen some readers recommend that reading order.
For those who are considering this series for younger readers, there is some closed door / fade to black romance in this book.

I was told this book is better than the first (which I didn't really care for) and I 100% agree. This one is WAY better written than the first and the storyline was MUCH more interesting. I'm still not much of a fantasy fan, and I haven't been converted to a Maas super fan, but I definitely give her credit for her growth between the two books.
I enjoyed the fast-paced storyline, answering of lingering questions from the first book, and new issues that arose & will presumably be answered in future books. I enjoyed the characters much more in this book - everyone seemed to have matured along with the author - and the narration wasn't nearly as annoying compared to the first book.
Can't say I highly recommend the book/series because it's not my favorite genre, but I am seeing more positives than negatives and am actually looking forward to the next book...a little bit anyway 😉

Really enjoyed this, especially as the plot picked up toward the middle of the book. There was one twist at the end that I saw coming from the first book, and another that I did not expect.
I called it from the moment that they mentioned Aelin Galathynius that she was Celaena Sardothien. However, I was very surprised when I learned that Celaena was Fae.
I really enjoyed Celaena’s development in this one, especially when she really came into her own dark power while rescuing Chaol, hunting Grave and fighting the monster in the portal.
I think the world building is decent, but could be better, especially when it comes to details about the other kingdoms.

Really great book. I love Sarah J. Maas’ writing style. I love the characters so much and it really made me feel everything. Screaming, crying, throwing up.
