Short but mystery and action packed. This former CIA granny is a spit fire in a sleepy little town. There was one plot hole but I can talk myself out of dwelling on it. I look forward to seeing what other messes Barbara gets into... and out of.

This was just a short, fun mystery about... a granny with a gun... showing that just because she's retired from espionage work, she doesn't have to let her mind go to waste.
A book club meeting turns deadly when one of the members abruptly drops dead. 70-year-old Barbara Gold, ex-CIA, knows there is more to this death than a mere heart attack; she suspects murder - by poison!
Granny's Got A Gun is the first book in the Secret Agent Granny series and, as such, sets up the relationships between Barbara and the characters who will become her sidekicks as the works progress. A pilot book always has the hard task of introducing the main characters and telling a story at the same time - a job managed well in this story.
There are numerous Goodreads reviews concerning Barbara's discourse on her diminished abilities. While I'm nowhere near Barbara's venerated age, I've found that my abilities have also dwindled as I grow older. Instead of springing to catch a glass of water before it's knocked over, I find that I now spring to grab a cloth to wipe up the spill. I'd imagine the same is in Barbara's mind and that translates to the grumbles the reader hears. It's not ageism at all - it's realism. I have a friend who runs marathons at age 65 and I also have a friend who can barely run up the steps at age 25. Both these people curse the fact that they aren't as spry as they were when they were younger. Fact of life: we slow down as we age and we notice it.
Barbara is engaging. Her backstory is different from most as is her take on life. She uses the disadvantage of age as a secret weapon, along with her actual weapon: a gun hidden in her purse. She's a tartar and well worth following. I can't wait to see what she gets up to next.
Recommended for cosy lovers.

A fun, light read with an amusing character and a quirky mystery. Enjoyed it. I will read the next in the series.
Granny’s Got a Gun is a fun little first book for a mystery series. Nice premise and perspective to have a retired CIA operative granny taking on mysteries, fighting again and combatting boredom. A pleasant Kindle Unlimited book.
