I think as a series, The Darkest Minds definitely is a consistently great set of books. I think sometimes the evil villain side of Clancy gets to be a little much and veers into a caricature, but he is also easy to sympathize with in this last book.
I did get very tired of the bickering though. It seems like most YA series have that one book where the main character and the love interest spend the entirety of it arguing with one another and then nearly dying. In The Afterlight has that plus the added Stewart brother, for even more fighting. Bracken could have cut a good amount of the heavy emotional encounters and moved forward with the plot a lot quicker and we would have lost nothing. Overall, the ending is the best bit and reads like to action-packed, horrifying situations we see in the first two books. It's great, and ties up nicely. She was smart not to drag it out into four books. The series is awesome and definitely underrated. Skip Divergent and read this instead.

Okay, this book was good. Like the story was brilliant. However, Ruby made me tired. I guess it's a good thing when the reader feels all the emotional trauma that the main character feels. This one definitely left me right there with Ruby. I was exhausted when she was. However on a positive note, when she felt victory so did I. I'm talking heart pumping, happy tears, floating off the ground kind of stuff. To create that kind of response in me is impressive (even though I am kind of a sap). Check out the detailed review on my site, the link's in my bio!
Look, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK! The only thing stopping me from giving it five is - WHAT ABOUT COLE?!
Why did the end not mention Cole? Maybe its just me but I but I was looking for some mention of cole.
Hence, Im giving it a 3.75.
Plus, it was kinda dull compared to the other two.

4.5 stars for my 205th book of the year
I'M DONE!!! But seriously.....where is the epilogue....?? as sweet as the ending was, what happens next?
After the second book, I was pretty disheartened, to be honest...I wasn't sure I was going to like this one. I really didn't care for most of the second one, so I was very happy to find out that this one was almost as awesome as the first one. I flew through it :)
I love the characters here, I love how the story progressed, I love all the different things that the author pulled together to create this story.
I do NOT, however, love...that it is now over, and I want to know more about what happened after this book ended.
“Ruby, what does the future look like?”
Nico asked. “I see it in colors,” I said. “A deep blue, fading into golds and reds—like fire on a horizon. Afterlight. It’s a sky that wants you to guess if the sun is about to rise or set.”

This book was fantastic! I don't even have the words to describe how good this was!
Review on Little Lillie Reads!
I've never felt so emotionally distraught after finishing a book. Wow - that's literally all I can say about this novel. It was a huge roller coaster of emotions, one I couldn't find my way off. In The Afterlight was an amazing wrap up to this elaborately, brilliant story. Alexandra Bracken had me wrapped around her finger the entire time and never once did I question my motive for following the Black Betty gang's story.
In The Afterlight definitely featured darker aspects than the first two books, but that was what kept you hanging on for more. There were tons of intense, action-packed scenes, which left not only my heart racing, but my mind boggling. I found this book to be very relatable, not because of my mind bending orange powers, but because it was a clear representation of teenagers going through difficult situations and trying to overcome them. Stress, frustration, and teenage angst were prominent elements used in this story, but that helped make the characters relatable, if not more enjoyable.
On the topic of characters, I really want to discuss just how amazing these characters are . From Ruby to Liam, Chubs to Vida, Zu to Jude, I could not help but form a connection to each of them individually. The team continues on through this book stronger than ever despite the amount of turmoil they've encountered. Together they are strong, intelligent, and a force to be reckoned with. In this book we grow closer to some very trustworthy and badass characters, but we also have to deal with those who are not as affable and gracious. It has been such a wonderful adventure to grow to love these characters, as well as it has been an adventure to grow to despise others.
Ruby and Liam, Ruby and Liam, Ruby and Liam. Holy smokes, I've never been so in love with a pair of characters before. Despite the rough patches these two go through in this book, they remain strong together. Liam continues to be swoon worthy, making my heart literally throb. I can't say much without giving away a lot of details, but just trust me when I say these two will make you giggle, cry, and smile all in the span of a single paragraph.
There is nothing I can say about this book that will bring it the justice or praise it deserves. I've fallen in love with this world and these characters, and I will forever cherish the happiness it has brought me. I hope you too will get the chance to hopelessly fall in love with this world and these characters just as I have, and to experience the wonderful writing Alexandra Bracken brings to the table.

Is it possible to give a book 10 stars?? Honestly I loved this so so much, it was a pretty great end to the story and my heart is so warm because I love these characters a lot, especially ruby because after everything she's been through she still did that for clancy. I don't know a better person, she inspires me so much and she deserves all the happiness in this world!!! My heart is broken because of cole :(( he deserved better than that!!! I'm so thrilled for charles and vida (what a couple!!!!) and I'm damn proud of zu, she's come such a long way and has finally spoken up for herself. I look forward to reading what comes next and I really need to congratulate alexandra bracken on an amazing job!!
5/5 stars
SPOILER REVIEW:
I have to give this book 5/5 for many reasons. For many obvious reasons.
1) VIDA AND CHUBS. VIDA. AND. CHUBS. Separately and together...TOGETHER. Alexandra, you don't know how happy you made me when they got together. When they first met in Never Fade they were instantly my OTP. I didn't know how much I needed it until I NEEDED IT. Is there a novella about what happened during their outing cause I NEED TO READ IT. (ALSO, she calls him Charlie)
2) Ruby. Just...Ruby. The whole book, the whole SERIES, she was just an amazing, amazing character. She's my favorite character, next to Chubs. The end when she destroys everyone and is like "Ruby. My name...is Ruby" and just...god. She's my favorite. Never have I liked a main character as much as her. Ever. Rarely is THE main character my favorite character
3) ALL THE REUNIONS. ZU AND EVERYONE. RUBY AND SAM. RUBY AND GRAMS AND HER PARENTS
4) Zu. Zu reminded me so much of Grace from the Delirium series. When Zu first spoke I about cried, I was so happy. Also her and Vida's friendship. All the hair dying, thumbs up. It was beautiful.
5) When the officer lowered his riot shield and took the little girl to her mom was probably my favorite moment of the entire book. It was just so heart wrenching, in a good way. It was so great I don't think I'll ever be able to get over it.
I can't believe it's over...

before picking up the next book, because I'm in a weird reading mood where I fly so fast through book, I need to express my feelings about this one
3.25STARS
I'm very dissapointed by the end, the whole book from beggining to end had one story line going and that was preparing for that last big impossible attack, with very repetetive arguments and scenes btw (drived me crazy FYI)and easy to predict like I didnt bat and eye at the revelation at the, it was bound to happen, i knew it, and then when we finally.... FINALLY get to that big event the book was suddenly blue skies and sushine, like what the F?! what just happened...
doesnt mean the author did not do a good job, on the very contrary I wouldn't have lasted till the end if it was that bad. I'm just dissapointed that's all. there still so many things that were unaswered or were just too rushed
note this is just an unedited rant to express my feeling and justufy my rating, have a nice day.

Mimo to pokochałam tą historie i jej bohaterów.
