I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and was a little let down with this book. It lacked the action and excitement that the first two books had and was a little slow and hard to get through. I found myself bored at some parts but overall I was happy with how the story wrapped up.

This book holds a lot of emotion that really makes it one of the best of the series. Whether it’s their fear, anger, love, no matter what it is you can feel it as you read. There are some incredibly proud Zu moments that make you want to be strong too, and everything just molds together to form this amazingly powerful book. The only con I can think of is the desire to go into the book and smack Liam over the head for some idiotic decisions. The best part of it all was the last chapter, the last few pages even. It brings you back to the feeling of driving around with them in Black Betty. Such a perfect way to wrap up these three books.
Ahhhhhh omgggg
I know I've said this on the other 2 but this was an amazing read, and I'm not exaggerating.
The emotional roller coaster throughout all three novels, the way it left you wanting more and having it be all you can focus on was one of the many things I loved about this trilogy and this book.
I'm sad to see it end there but thankfully there's two novellas as well. Thank you Alexandra Bracken for writing an amazing trilogy and getting me attached to Ruby, Liam, Cole, Chubs, Vida and all the other characters.
One of the best, BEST books I have ever read.

After reading so many conclusions to series in the recent past (especially conclusions to dystopian series), I have been disappointed by the ending time and time again. But IN THE AFTERLIGHT was the complete opposite: it was what a series' finale should be and more. All of the characters got their time in the spotlight and I felt like they all got the parting that they deserved. All of the plot lines were tied up nicely, at least the plot lines that are important to the characters. This was an absolutely amazing book. I got it around 2 PM today and I am now writing this at 4 AM, having devoured it in one sitting, all the while singing, "Fuck my life and fuck my responsibilities!" But it was all worth it, because this truly was a spectacular book.
And, by the way, I have never had the experience of reading an author's acknowledgments and bursting into tears before. Seriously, Alexandra Bracken, that last line of your acknowledgments touched me and made tears roll down my face. So, thank you for your story, for your characters, and for your inspiring words.

I really liked the movie, which is why I started reading the series in the first place. The other two books are good! I liked them. Ruby got more and more annoying though.
In this book, she was borderline unbearable. Honestly, I wanted to like the last book as much as the previous ones, but I didn’t. Ruby just... kept thinking about how SHE was going to be the one to save everyone, how SHE has an unbearable load to carry, how SHE has lost so many people, how SHE is the only one who knows what’s good for the surviving children. Like. Please. Girl. Humble yourself. I KNOW the author meant it in a “Ruby is so GOOD she just wants to save everyone way” but it got so. freaking. annoying.
THEY DIDNT COMMUNICATE. LIKE AT ALL.
This entire book we’re basically stuck inside Ruby’s head and she thinks A LOT and that’s it. And then in the last 50 pages the big saving kids action happens (for which Ruby is basically unconscious) and I’m left wanting MORE. I didn’t want to read a book that’s filled with a whining (selfish but she can’t even see it) girl. I wanted action. Nice moments. Something.
AND WHY THE HELL DIDNT SHE TALK TO LIAM MORE????? She’s all like oh he doesn’t trust me boo hoo but no . I can’t talk to him. Let me talk to the brother he dislikes!!!!! That’ll help!!!!!! And the fighting was so unnecessary half of the time.
I just got so annoyed.
The ending was a let down too, since it was handled in like 10 pages. I just wished the author had paced this better. I’m really disappointed.
One last thing: Ruby’s powers make NO sense. Sometimes she can control multiple people, sometimes she can’t control more than one, then she’s suddenly super powerful, and in the next she’s basically helpless? There’s no consistency and it isn’t explained well...
Okay that was it. I’m just. Really disappointed.

SO ARE WE JUST GONNA FORGET THAT COLE STEWART IS DEAD?????
More like 3.5 stars. Something I discovered while reading this, is that I actually don't like Ruby. I just feel like she blames herself for everything. Literally. "Someone's puppy died." Ruby: it's my fault oh no! I JUST CAN'T.
On another note, Liam is the freaking best! Also the only thing I like about Ruby, is her and Liams relationship. THEY ARE SO CUTE.
Zu is awesome too.
OKAY THAT'S IT!
FOX SIGNING OUT!
