Still Life

Think this might be one of the most beautiful books I've ever had the fortune to read. Bravo.

I struggled to get into this at first. It’s heavy on dialogue. The dialogue is often short/quick and flips back and forth between characters. No speech/quotation marks. A bit of an adjustment when you begin reading. But once you get your head around it, it’s a wonderful story brimming with energy and excitement for life.

I really want to watch a BBC series based on this book

Filled with joy and wisdom.

This is reading as a sensual experience. I contend this would be so even if you cut out the (mild) sex scenes. It’s the joy of the intimacy of friendship; the world around you; your place in history; the delight of food; sharing your space, your time, your enjoyment of all these. The narrative rambles a bit sometimes, but it’s a delight to share the delicious thoughts and observations of this author.
