The characters in this book will stay with me for a long time as I’m sure they have for other readers. Their friendship, love and care for one another is heart-warming and I did not want the book to end; it spans the years 1901 to the late seventies and I wanted to know what happened next in all their lives!

What a cast! Evelyn, Ulysses, Peg, Alys, Cressy, Piano Pete, Col, Des, Massimo and Claude the parrot amongst others. The city of Florence is another star of the book. The author’s love and knowledge of all things Italian shines through; its food, culture, art and language. It made me wish I was there. Highly recommended!
