A simple read!  It made me feel like a coward because I don't know if I'd have the guts to do any of those things.  It also makes me appreciate mischievous, spirited, naughty little boys, especially since I have a couple in my class right now.  I'd like to read more true stories about mischievous, spirited, naughty little girls too, and will seek out such!

Boy do I wish I had known Knud Pederson! What a firebrand! This novel is a great look at the emergence of the Danish Resistance which was amazingly brought about by high school kids! Very inspiring and an interesting history to learn about. Fans of WW2 will absolutely devour this one but I think it has so much intrigue and mystery that most students will enjoy it too.

Grades 7 and up due only to the complexity of the historical events. An eager 5th or 6th grader would do fine.

This is an amazing story of teenagers in Denmark, angered by their country passively allowing the German occupation during WWII, who decided to fight back. I love that the author was able to interview one of the members of the Churchill Club and document his story before he passed away. Knud Petersen felt passionately about what he and his friends were attempting and wasn't afraid of the consequences. Courage or the naivety of youth? Probably both, but they left their mark on the Germans and their own country. Definitely heroes!

This was a fascinating look at a subject I knew little about. I had read many different stories of how the Norwegians immediately fought Nazi occupation at the beginning of World War II, but I never understood the whole story of what prompted the eventual Danish resistance. A few brave teenage boys took it upon themselves to become a small band of resistance fighters, eventually going to prison for their efforts. However, their bravery encouraged the vast majority of Danish citizens to also eventually fight back against German occupation.

This true adventure story is told in an engaging way that will really appeal to kids. WWII books are popular anyway, but this true story of teens who resisted Hitler's invasion of Denmark is a must read.

Read for librarian book group.
Engrossing book about Danish teenagers who decided to not just roll over when the Nazis came to town. Aside from being chock-full of interesting details, I appreciated how the author discussed the aftermath of the consequences.

Great true story about the Churchill Club, a group of teenage boys who were upset that their danish government cowed to the Nazi regime. As Nazi occupation sweeps their country, these teens begin their own resistance movement by stealing guns, setting fires to Nazi run factories and vehicles, and tagging Nazi things with their own symbol in spray paint. They know they are taking a great risk in getting captured, but the boys feel their cause is worth the risk.
Good for any war buffs or reluctant readers who may enjoy history. Ages 13 and up.
