I liked trehan a lot but Bettina was not my favorite.

Excellent sexy times but I kept falling out of the story when the characters changed voice. 95% of conversations were standard fantasy very upper class lords and ladies but very once in awhile you'd get a very American 21st century exclamation. I'm sure there was a point to it but it just felt like the editor missed a few.

This is another book in the Imortals After Dark series...just as an fyi.
emotional hopeful medium-paced

I wasn't going to read this because I didn't like the recent direction of the "Immortals After Dark" series and I didn't want to feel committed to another series. I decided to get it from the library. Aside from introducing a slew of new characters, this is basically the same as the IAD books. I liked it much better than the latest IAD book, "Lothaire." The central plot device (a tournament) reminded me of the plot in "No Rest for the Wicked" (an "Amazing Race" style competition). Trehan and Bettina were interesting and fun characters, and you could actually see how they might get along outside of the bedchamber. The books was missing some of the humor of the IAD books, but overall a fun and quick read.

this was a fun read, lots of sex. I like the world of the story. the book was a littke too nicely tied up unto a bow at the end, but no complaints from me. excellent for escapism!

I did spend two years after Lothaire without reading thie series, because I did not like at all, but this book, which is almost a spin-off, made me appreciate again either him or Cole.
Bettina and Trehan are two fascinating characters, but above all I liked the context a lot: a challenge to determine the best, a woman who, for the first time, does not lose her head immediately to the alpha male, a ghost that makes me laugh and a whole host other characters that enrich the plot. I'm glad to have read it and even more happy to have even MacRieve to follow.
