Anyway, I devoured this one - what else is new?? I love a good ‘mistaken identity makeout sesh.’ Cole really knows how to breathe life into some Tropes of Old. Also loved getting to see a new plane of the Lore and find out what those Dracians are all about. And all I can say is daaayyuuuummm!
Love when the Sorceri make an appearance, I am eternally jealous of their commitment to wearing fetish wear as royal garb.
I will say: the jumps back and forward through the timeline in the series thus far is a bit confusing - and I admit, I am wearying of it! Will we ever get to the damned Accession? People reading this at the time of publishing have already had like thirteen years of blue balls on this. Is it coming or nah?

I really enjoyed this story—I think a tournament setting almost always makes for an exciting, high-stakes plot. I feel like Bettina is a disliked heroine, but I enjoyed her evolution—and she had a lot stacked against her. I liked Trehan a lot more than I remember from my first read. I love their shared love of weapons and how sexy he finds her amazing craftsmanship. And the bag of heads!!

Even though I enjoyed the entire IAD series and I do find this book ok (haven't yet finished it) I do have one complaint.
I appreciated the fact that the author uses phrases/words from the characters original languages and this book is no different. Only problem is that Trehan tries to say stuff in romanian and kinda fails which grates to no end. I assume there aren't many romanian readers out there but still, the author should have at least tried to use correct grammar for the few times she does use romanian phrases. "Zeii mea" is the grammatical equivalent of "human are" or "humans is", it is very distracting.

I'm not a romance fan, and this was way too much formulaic romance for me to enjoy.

This was so good. Immortals after dark never disappoints. They were very sweet, and I liked to see a sourcer that was not bloodthirsty. I did not like Sabine… And I never will.
The one thing that bothered me a bit was that Trehan did a lot for her, while it felt as if she did not do enough for her. I did like that she had to realize on her own that Caspion was not her love, but it was quite hard for Trehan. I did really not blame him when he left her. He had had enough, and I understand him.
3.5-3.75 stars
This was a good time. I didn’t love it as much as some of the others in the series, though. In this book we’re allowed into the mystifying Dacia. I want to say that my interest in Trehan was definitely piqued when I read about him in Lothaire. And Bettina is such a sweetheart who’d been in a horrible situation, and was traumatized because of it. Trehan is drawn to Bettina while on a mission and sparks fly. Bettina then finds herself in a difficult position once she learns why Trehan is truly there.
