Near perfect. I just got a bit annoyed with the 'love triangle' +Trehan's jealousy at times (I just also really missed the older characters lol) but I enjoyed the plot overall. Both characters were really lovable and Trehan was such a great mmc. I loved how supportive he was of Bettina and all her endeavors. Loved Bettina's growth.

Trehan is hot, Bettina is a little boring. But when you're this deep into a long-running series, where the characters intertwine over different books, you take the good with the bad. At least the next one is about a werewolf.

It pains me really to rate an IAD book less than 4 stars. but for most of this book I couldn't STAND Bettina. Also I feel like the actual conflict was was solved way too quickly. Trehan had the patience of a Saint when it came to Bet and she treated him so poorly for a large portion of this and it made me uncomfy. So 3.5 stars is my rating and frankly that half star is for the fact this is one of my favourite series and the fact I had the audio. I don't think I would have finished this if I hadn't.

Guilty-pleasure reading, like eating an entire container of Ben & Jerry's Blueberry Graham Greek. Hated Morghana and her treatment of Bett (I cannot think of her as Bettina - or worse, Tina - without laughing), Cas was okay, but really just a dumb jock of a demon. Trehan and his family were the most interesting characters, except how boring must it be to live in a hidden kingdom?!?! And who was Trehan having to go kill all the time if they never let anyone out? And how did the demon's horns change shape all the time - aren't horns kind of inflexible by definition? Was everyone else traumatized by "scorching jets"?

Joking aside, I did enjoy having Bett and Trehan (or Vampire, because that seemed to be what she thought his name was!)bond over weapons design. I think she eyed his library lustfully as well - go nerd girls!

Shadow's Claim is the first in The Dacians, a spin-off series of Immortals After Dark where it fits in after the 12th book in the series, I have not read anything else in the IAD series.

The world that Cole created was intricate and engaging, but I felt like there needed to be a balance between what lore we needed to know for this story and what lore was superfluous.

I liked Trehan, the romance's hero. While he had plenty of alpha tendency he also had a great love and respect for his mate's wishes and well-being. He was more worried about showing her that he cared for her that satisfying his own desires.

Bettina was, in one word, vapid. She is extremely naive and spends a good deal of time chasing after someone who has made it clear that he's not romantically interested in her, all while enjoying her encounters with Trehan. I felt like everyone around her (even if they are twisted in the ways they go about it) has her best interest in mind, but she is concerned only with her own selfishness and self-pitying. Bah.

Overall I thought the book was a fun read and I liked it, but I'm not sure I'll be reading anymore in the series.
